Poured into a Sam Adams pint glass. Nice dark auburn color with red hues. Clear, slightly lower carbonation, but nice frothy tan head. Lots of retention likely aided by the wheat addition.
Nicely hoppy aroma! Pine, a little sour, more on the resinous end of the hops spectrum. A little of the wheat hits at the beginning. Really nice.
Flavor is hoppy, the wheat comes in and then there's a transition to the more roasted malt and a dry, coffee and chocolate finish with just a bit of lingering hop flavor. More earthy early on than expected. A little alcohol comes through as it warms. Taste is a little watery and would be helped by a bit more body and carbonation, I think. The mouthfeel is pretty good, but could use more carbonation. Pleasant finish, though.
Overall, it looks and smells better than it tastes, to me. Still a very solid beer, with an interesting mix of light body, hops and a roasty finish. Doesn't pack quite the punch of flavor I would like at 6.2% abv.
