A: Pours a deep brown color, with some ruby highlights. The beige head is medium-sized, with a frothy consistency. Retention is decent, and lacing is above average.
S: Some slightly roasty, chocolatey malt aroma up front. Light caramel. Hop notes are primarily citric, with some added piney character. Some light fruitiness is also available.
T: Modestly sweet up front, with some nice chocolatey flavor balancing with a bit of caramel. Hop bitterness is medium-firm; think pale ale territory. Citric (orange) and piney hop flavors are noticeable. A bit of earthy/fruity English character as well, though I'm not sure if it's from the hops or the yeast. Semisweet cocoa powder returns into the fading finish.
M: Medium bodied. Carbonation is fairly refined. Lightly creamy up front, before becoming a bit dry and prickly towards the finish. Light roastiness adds some feel here.
D: A bit of a mutt in terms of style, but it's an enjoyable beer that brings a little of everything to the table. A pleasant drinking winter seasonal from New Belgium.
