A wonderfully clear and orange copper. A nice half-inch head and plenty of lively carbonation.

The aroma is tropical fruits, berries and just a hint of white pepper.

The beer is dry but not a crisp dry. The flavor is similar to the tropical fruit aroma. There is pineapple, starfruit and passion fruit with the addition of a bit of honeydew melon and peppery yeast esters.

This is a very interesting saison. I love the addition of prickly pear and the passion fruit. I think some brewers would be tempted to overwhelm the character of the saison with the fruit but this is well balanced. However, I think it would benefit from a better saison base recipe.

Poured this on into a New Belgium goblet/over sized wine glass mix.

A: Poured a light amber color with a one to two finger white head. That left a fair amount of lacing.

S: A nice fruity smell up front with some Belgium yeast following close behind. With a small amount of hop aroma to follow.

T: A very sweet flavor with just a mild funk to it. Can taste the Belgium yeast but not much of the hops that where in the aroma.

M: Very light bodied, low carbonation, with a slight touch of alcohol.

O: Not a bad beer but will not be rushing to buy out the stock at the local beer store.

22oz bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a medium creamy white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet fruits, flowers and spicy musty yeast.

The flavor is sweet fruits, banana and toasty malts with some rye-like spice and a fairly dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation and a little watery.

Overall, an interesting beer, but not one I'd search out.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

LOOK: Brassy hue, crackling lace

SMELL: Medicinal, musty yeast, herbal, grainy, exotic fruit, mint, watermelon rind, green peppercorn

TASTE: Mild crispness, slick mouthfeel, spicy, mint, orangey, exotic fruit, peppery, bready, mild funk, yeast, warming alcohol, biscuity, faint tobacco, grainy semi-dry finish.

A good stab at the whole saison thing, I personally think the saison fad is wavering and only a handful really stand out. Too much booziness, the fruit gets lost from the alcohol and spiciness of the yeast. Not my bag baby ... pretty hard to drink this one but give it a go if you like the boozier saisons.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head.. The aroma is heavy on the fruit with some Belgian yeast, a little bit of alcohol and some biscuit malt. The flavor is quite a bit more complex than the aroma. I get a ton of prickly pear notes, as well as some passion fruit and Belgian yeast. There is also some nice white pepper notes as well as some other mixed spice and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I liked this one.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a fairly clear golden copper orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of white head that quickly fades into a thin patch. Lacing on the glass is moderate.

Smell: Aroma is upfront with Belgian yeast, cloves, and bananas. Yeast blends with a pretty sweet and fruity mix of grapes, apple, pears, passion fruit, and candied sugar. Also a bit of pepper and alcohol in the aroma. Very sweet smelling.

Taste: Tastes very sweet too. Belgian yeast and clove is there but more subtle in the taste. A lot of fruit and sugar here. Notes of pear, grapes, apple, passion fruit, and banana. Also some hints of pepper, funk, and a little alcohol. Very sweet but not enough to be cloying. Its still enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Somewhat chewy and syrupy. Very sweet throughout.

Overall: A decent brew and an interesting experiment. The sweetness could of been balanced by some more yeasty barnyard funk but this was still enjoyable.

from a 22 oz bottle of Prickly Passion Saison

Clear golden beer with a white head. The aroma is very fruity, with a clear note of apple cider and hints of pears and apricots

A very fruity saison, with plenty of yeast too. Lightly funky. Lingering aftertaste. Only slight presence of alcohol.

Medium body and medium-light carbonation.

Unique and interesting brew, but not tempted to return (unless/until I acquire a taste for funk).

yea...i do believe this is pretty decent beer!

the appearance is light brown golden color with a fast rising head, that fades within a minute....

smells like great french saison yeast...with excellent fruity notes over the top of it

the taste is a little too fruity, and you really can't taste the saison flavor a whole lot

the feel is dry!...exactly how it should be

overall this is the second time i've purchased this ale...i love it, but its def experimental!

Half finger of white head that retains a bit. Clear amber body.

Smell is typical saison. Some Belgian yeast, a bit of spice, relatively little funk.

Taste is sort of biscuity (or perhaps bready, some solid, neutral base), with some of the sweetness that I can only guess is prickly pear. Black pepper comes in at the end, which is faintly bitter. Well balanced.

Mouthfeel is relatively bright, but not too 'prickly' (pun intended).

It's pretty good, even as a non saison-lover. Not outstanding, but good.

22oz bottle, split

appearance: served in hopleaf tulip, strong amber body with a 1/2" beige head. Appearance certainly off-line with style

smell: medicinal, light tartness

taste: the most hit or miss series in all of beer - this beer is a fail. If it's a saison, it's one of the worst saisons I have ever had. The flavor profile is medicinal and artificial with no real yeast crispness - the tartness seems forced. Drinkable, but obviously really derivative for the style, and not in a good way.

mouthfeel: bigger than a saison without any of the desired traits

overall: pass

Pours a chill hazed amber with a finger of cream colored head. Never clears, average lacing & traces of head retention

S: Appleskins, wet cereal, & some pineapple

T: Follows the nose, some pear notes, slight pineapple flavor along with passion fruit up front. Golden delicious apples & white grape as this warms, some dryness & lemon peel as well, some phenolic notes too. Finishes with grapefruit bitterness, juicy fruit & with smatteering of tropical & orchard fruit & slight sourness/tartness

MF: Medium bodied, slght carbonation

Drinks fine, the ABV is fairly well hidden, a passable saison, but a one & done for me. Glad I tried it, but not memorable by any stretch of the imagination
