Pours very dark cola brown, nearly black. Red and amber highlights in the light. Small light tan head that fades quickly. Decent lacing though.
Cinnamon cookie aroma. Spices, vanilla, and graham cracker. Lots of earthy and sweet cocoa. Mexican hot chocolate with chiles in the background. Very sweet.
The taste almost mirrors the aroma but with dark fruits coming into play as well. Chiles still far in the background on the first sip, but heat begins to kick in with subsequent sips. It's quite sweet, but the peppers seem to keep it in check as if taking the place of hops...very interesting.
Pretty silky mouthfeel but with low carbonation. Could be better if there was more to deliver more of the flavors.
Very interesting beer. I'm a fan of this trend with chocolate beers that aren't stouts. You taste the actual chocolate more as opposed to roasted malts. The peppers don't seem to add much flavor, just heat, which isn't so exciting...still good though.
