Appearance: Dark brown, good head and lacing

Smell: Chiles, cocoa, dark fruit, cinnamon

Taste: Chiles, though not too much heat, cinnamon, cocoa, dark fruits, malts, brown sugar

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation, full body

Overall: An excellent beer, not quite as good as Victory at Sea Mole, but still excellent. A little sweeter than I think it should have been but otherwise great

Pours a dark murky red. Head disappoints with its volume but picks up with its lovely lacing. Off-white colour; looks heavy, not so massively impressive though.

Smells grainy, and a bit dark. Touch of smoke to it, but primarily sweet notes - oatmeal, brown sugar, touch of molasses. All pretty nice, but that smoke is wonderful in there and I wish it were the hero.

Taste is an intriguing one. Sweet, dark, bitter at times, also some of that smoke with woody notes as well. Brown sugar and cinnamon really own the palate though, in a big way. Touch of grape, vanilla and dark wood notes. Some smoke late, but it's also slightly bitter and spicy with pepper and galangal on the back. Interesting mix, I appreciate that it's not too sweet but still falls a bit short of the 'wow' mark.

Fluid, bit of thickness, quite a spicy bite at the end. Good.

A bit odd; nice notes throughout but if there was a sense of it being a perfect example of a style that would be nice. It's a little bit off-kilter stylistically: too sweet for some things and too spicy for others. Still, I quite enjoy it.
