look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Rich garnet/dark brown. Minimal head. Small dirty white collar. Spotty head. No lacing to speak of. Minimal carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Delightful. Rich milk chocolate with a solid cocoa presence. Mild chile backing adds some smoky heat. Almost like a chipotle. Cinnamon and sugar. Some caramelized malts. No hops to speak of. Smells like mexican dessert. Bready and vaguely spicy. A nice balance of chocolate/cocoa and malts. A bit roasty. Straight up cinnamon and chile infused churro.

Taste: Chocolate and a slight chile spice. Some backing smoky elements. Sweet and bready. Churro magic going on. Some roasted malts. Very light, slightly earthy hop presence. Not a ton of heat from the peppers, but it's there. Some milky chocolate with a ton of cocoa. A bit too sweet on the finish. Loses something as it warms, becoming straight cinnamon sugar with some chile backing spiciness. Lingers with some heat. Cocoa. A bit of grass in the back.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a moderate to light carbonation. Clean other than the lingering hint of chile heat.

Overall: Bottled churro.

I'll say it again, this is a slightly spicy bottled churro. Loses something on the taste as it warms. Solid though.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this beer

Consumed 7/13/13

Appearance: Dark, rich garnet with some brown - mostly clear - pours with a decent sized off-white head - keeps a whispy cap - leaves some nice streaks of lacing that stick around for a while

Smell: Spicy, not in a hot way, but in a cinnamon way, with chilies and chocolate - cinnamon, some vague spiciness, and some fleshy, vegetal chilies - no chili heat detectable from the aroma - some sweet cocoa and semisweet chocolate - some caramel grains and malts

Taste: A nice mix of chocolate, chilies, and mild heat - straight-up cocoa, some semisweet chocolate, and some dark chocolate - green chilies, vegetal, with a mild but satisfactorily warming amount of heat - the heat builds, but it's quite nice - lightly smoky - some cinnamon, vanilla, and other spices - caramel and brown malt backbone - nicely balanced overall, with a really nice amount of heat

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, smooth, with a nice chili bite at the end

Overall: Delicious, delicious moles

This is quite an interesting chile-chocolate beer. It has some nice chile and chocolate flavors, but neither are extreme. I could probably drink a lot of this. I hope New Belgium makes more of this, especially when the East Coast brewery is up and running...
