This beer has a lot going on and I will do my best to review it to the best of my ability. Pours a deep brown color with minimal head and spotty lacing. Aroma hits you hard with scents of cinnamon, roses, and some weird, yet intriguing other aroma that I just cant figure out. Taste is very bold like the nose. Touches of wet cinnamon and allspice are definitely present and their is a slight burn that I would guess is a combination of the alcohol and the ancho, guajillo and chipotle peppers. The heat is not overbearing, but you tend to get more of it on the front end than the back. I am getting very little cocoa out of this. This beer is full of all kinds of mild to moderate spice and the mouthfeel is a little less than I would have expected after the first taste. Hard to tell how the balance is because of everything that is going on, but overall, this is the most unique beer I have had. A sipper, slow and steady, lol.

Dark with thin brown head. Subtle spice and chocolate aroma. Taste is subtle too, cocoa, malt, and hint of spice. Very nice.

New Blegium's Cocoa Mole, from their Lips of Faith series. Spiced chocolate porter brewed with cocoa, ancho, guajillo, and chipotle. 9% ABV.

A: About a finger on tan head. Slowly fades. Deep plum red in the light, black out of it. Grey and yellow in the dimple. Slight lacing and sheeting.

S: Mexican cocoa, up front. Slight caramel. Slight waxy pepper aroma, with a faint burn in the nose.

T/MF: Definite sweet and waxy pepper flavor, but not so piquant. Certainly hotter in the nose than on the palate. It does taste more like a mole sauce than a peppered chocolate. Bittersweet chocolate. The pepper flavor is a nice touch, with a subtle burn towards the back of the tongue. Reminds me of Trader Joe's Fireworks chocolate bar, but less spicy. Does have a lighter body, typical of a lagered porter. Would likely pair well with lighter Mexican cuisine, or perhaps dessert. Hmm, maybe that black cherry gelato in the freezer...

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance- The beer pours a deep brown-mahogany color with a moderately thick head of two finger height. The brown tinted head has a moderate level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is rather strong of a milk chocolate flavor mixed with some spicy red pepper aromas. Along with these more dominant smells are some aromas of a caramel and smells of a dark fruit nature with the fruits being mainly of a raisin and plum smell. A strong aroma of cinnamon rounds out the smell creating a Mexican spiced milk chocolate bar aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a moderately sweeter chocolate flavor mixed with some lighter flavor of hot pepper. Upfront the sweetness is of a caramel and dark fruits, but these flavors later end up fading a bit as the taste moves on. While the sweeter flavors fade some, more pepper comes to the tongue and with this increase in pepper also comes some flavors of roasted malt and some stronger spice flavors of a cinnamon and a hit of coriander. In the end with the loss of sweet, the increase in the spice and heat, and with a little bit of a boozy taste hitting the tongue, one is left with a rather hot semi sweet Mexican spiced cocoa bar flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. For the rich cocoa mixed with the pepper it is a rather decent feel as it nicely accentuates the two all while not overwhelming the tongue with the spice or the richness of the taste.

Overall – An interesting one to try, but a little too peppery and spiced for my tastes. If you like chili spice and chocolate porters this may be for you, but if not you may not want to take this on.

Appearance - 3.5/5
Dark red-orange-brown. Slight transparent, but it's so dark you can't really see through except at the narrow parts of the glass. 1/2 finger of head on initial pour, dissipates down to a thin layer.

Smell - 3.25/5
Cinnamon, cocoa, maybe hints of alcohol and spiciness. Very earthy as well. Overall I didn't find the smell that pleasant.

Taste - 4/5
The chocolate/mole aspects come out much stronger in the taste than in the smell. The dominant taste is a the spicy cinnamon mixed with chocolate. I really like the cinnamon aspect of this beer. The cinnamon + chocolate + chilli spiciness really makes this taste like Molé (I think I've had molé before?). Overall, I don't know whether I love the taste, but I definitely respect it as a great example of a molé beer, perhaps the best example of this style I have tried.

Mouthfeel - 4/5
Medium bodied. Smooth, but quite spicy. This beer definitely leaves a spicy and tingly aftertaste on the back of your throat. Carbonation was light

Overall - 4/5
Overall I really liked this beer as a great example of a molé-style beer. Not something I would want
