Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

I'm not sure how sad it is, but beer teaches me more about the world than just about any other source. Anyway, this stuff pours a clear sunset ruby-amber topped by over a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises medicinal cherry dust (which also kinda borders on plum at times...), Belgian candi sugar, light clove, banana, perfume-y flowers, and a smattering of honey. The taste brings in more of the same, along with a touch of coffee in the background and some lightly-toasted biscuit throughout. The body is a straight medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda grainy feel. Overall, I don't feel the cascara really works all that well here, as it seemed to go sideways. Had that strange character not been there, ths probably could've been pretty nice, but c'est la vie, I s'pose.

A: poured into a snifter to a ruddy brown with a finger and a half of dense white head that fades to a small mat and leaves good lacing
S: smells is alcohol, dark fruits and sugary sweetness
T: taste is dark fruits, candi sugar, cherry, tobacco and some alcohol. swallow is alcohol, dark fruits and some phenols
M: this beer is on the fuller side with soft and slightly prickly carbonation. the beer finishes just slightly dry
O: Not a bad quad and it definitely can't stand toe to toe with some of the best from Belgium. It's definitely well made and drinks well. Alcohol could be hidden better but the flavors meld fairly well.

A: Almost a mahogany hue with a big creamy and foamy head and okay lacing

S: Lots of fruits and candied sugars: cherries, dates, figs, brown sugar, raisins with some subtle coffee undertones; this smells quite good

T: Pretty boozy and not nearly the complexities as the aromas hinted at: dates, cherries, brown sugar, raisins, and coffee are all there but they just don't quite mesh

F: Medium body and sticky--pretty decent mouth feel

O: I like this beer; I just wish the flavors matched the amazing aromas

Color - thick and cloudy unfiltered maple syrup.

Aroma- sweet nutty caramel.

Taste- Starts with a velvety dark cherry note mildly shifting to a buttery Belgian yeasty spiciness, finishing with a dark chocolate dry lingering beauty.

Poured from 650 ml bomber into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted 5/4/13.
