I picked this bottle up because I haven't had a Quad for New Belgium brewing company. As soon as i opened the bottle i was over whelmed with a smell of cherries. The appearance was a thin white head that just floats on the top of the beer with nice lacing. The smell was dominant ed by spices with the hint of cherries. The taste was just all over the place the flavors were not as balanced as they should of been. Overall not a bad beer is just decent to me.

Bomber into a chalice

Best by August 2014

Pours a honey brown with a 2 finger tan heAd

Basic quad nose of dark fruits, molasses, and some slight spice

Lots going on flavor wise. Dark fruits hit right away, some funkyness hits and it finishes dry but sweet with cherry flavor

Not too bad.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep copper. Pretty clear. Nice off white head. Wispy surface.

Smell - Deep caramel. Earthy notes. Strong alcohol. Some dark fruits.

Taste - Harsh alcohol here too. Dark earthy, kinda coffee. Very bitter. Not really all that fruity, despite the description.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Medium carbonation. Overly bitter.

Overall - Interesting coffee flavor, but the effect is intense for a quad, even if the coffee flavor itself isn't that strong.

A: pours a clear ruby color with three fingers of beige head that fades into a frothy ring with great lacing.

S: Belgian spices up front with tons of bubblegum and candy sugar. Sweet fruits and breads follow with some alcohol notes.

T: Spices here as well with candy sugar, some bubblegum, and a lot of sweet bread flavors. There are some slight tea flavors along with notes of dark fruit. The finish is lightly boozy.

M: medium body and carbonation, this beer isn't too thick of body, but needs a bit more carbonation.

O: an alright quad overall, but a bit simplistic and under-attenuated. I wish the coffee cherries came through a bit more. Not offensive by any means, though.

A: The body is a medium-brown hazy tea-like color, with a small tan and white head that fades away to a pad of large-sized bubbles. Some pock marks where the head manages to stick, but not really lacing. Much lighter than a traditional Quad.

S: Smell alcohol right off the bat. Even as soon as I opened the bottle. I get a few esters, raisin box, and some fig.

T: Alcohol, right off the bat. Then there's a toasty caramel sweetness, followed by a pretty strong bitterness. The alcohol flavor is very strong in this beer, and even when getting past that, the strong bitterness bites hard enough to make it difficult to identify any complexities. Despite this, it is certainly not one-dimensional.

M: The beer is a bit sticky, and has a rough bitterness that make it more difficult to drink than what a person might be used to in a traditional Quad.

O: Overall I was not a huge fan of the beer. It was very boozy and wasn't as smooth as I'd like. I did like that there was a uniqueness to the beer. I felt that the beer might be interesting to age, but that its current state is sub-par, and aging should not be used as a crutch. Belgian beer fans probably wouldn't enjoy this as much as drinkers who want to taste it for its unique ingredients (date sugar and coffee cherries). I would recommend it to those who want to try something different, and don't mind the taste of high-alcohol. For everyone else, I would recommend staying away.

22oz into a tulip. Pours a mid tone walnut, little head with an encouraging pour, minor lacing.

Aroma is dominated by a strong phenolic undertone. Yes, the promised cherries, dates and tobacco are delivered but they do not define as the phenolic note does.

Dates begin the flavor which is low in sweets. Dry sits in for bitter. Strongly pronounced dark cherries appear in the finish and is the highlight of the taste. A hint of solvent alcohol appears as the flavor evolves to an undefined sensation.
Slick bodied medium mouthfeel.

Bottle opened on 3.14.13

A - Pours a murky, very dark amber-ruby with a two inch soapy-fluffy tan head that slowly fades leaving spots of lacing.

S - Sweet dark fruit-cherry, plum, some coffe also.

T - Sweet plum juice, alcohol, really ripe fruit, not great.

D - Good carbonation with a medium body.

O - Super sweet and fruity, not impressed at all with this one.

Had on tap.

Pours a hazy dark red with a thick white head. Great head retention as well as lacing that hangs around for a very long time.

The aroma is full of cherry and other dark fruit along with a bit of spice and herbs.

Tons of cherry up front in the aroma along with dates. It almost reminds me of cherry kool-aid at first that's how strong the cherry is. This transitions into a more herbal and tobacco taste as the flavor progresses. Banana and clove are faintly present in the background along with alcohol becoming more apparent in the finish.

Overall, there is just way too much going on here. It is a little bit messy with nothing seeming to meld just right. A nice attempt at a unique quad but I feel it is just too overdone.

too much alcohol flavor not enough any other flavor. The coffee didn't make an appearance and the cherry was not in the forefront. The only thing that sold me was .... did i mention $2 14 oz drafts left over from tap take over at that price Im going to sample it all night long.... could be much tasiter!

Bottle, 22 oz. etched with some crazy stuff. Lips of Faith series. Poured into a large wine glass. Pour is a hazy brown and light mahogany in the light. A half inch of foam offers decent retention which settles to moderate lace.

Aroma of crystal malts to a degree, and a touch of cherry in the mix. Some yeast and hop notes are present yet are crushed by the added fruit. Taste follows the nose, with cherry licqueur being dominant. Lacks depth with regard to malt structure yet seems fairly well attenuated for q 10% brew.

Taste is sweet and a bit boozy. A Quad in strength but surely not in character. Even with warming and exposure this beer leaves a bit to be desired...

Well, I'll be. This one has a pink hue in the foam, which billows up nicely upon pouring, but settles to a collar with haste. Sticky lacing, sugary.

Aroma has a slight cherry cough syrup-ness to it. Some booze. Subtle sweet bread. Nothing powerful or interesting, really.

Flavor is cherry candy, too much of it. Sweet cherry and booze. Is this a quad or some sort of kriek? Perhaps a bit of spice from the yeast, but it is just beat up and left for dead. I can't get past the cherry. There are other flavors in there, but they are muddled.

Feels alright, still not zing or softness of some quads. One dimensional beer. Couldn't take this one, poured into the bushes.

Appearance: Medium amber with a thin brownish head, splotchy lacing. Very light in color for a quad, resembles a dubbel more.

Smell: Dark fruits with a good amount of cherry, dates and raisin. Some malty sweetness, but no apparent roast or coffee.

Taste: Dark cherry at the forefront, not tart as I would've hoped for, and I get absolutely no coffee. Tastes reminiscent of cherry cough syrup...

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation and a slight alcohol burn. Getting through a whole bottle of this would be a chore.

Overall: Glad this is out of my fridge and I can't say that I'm a fan. Maybe it was a bad bottle, but I got none of the coffee and very little traditional Belgian quadrupel flavors...Unfortunately much of this bottle was a drainpour

22 oz bottle. Pours ruby amber with a big creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet toffee malts, with dark fruits and some roasted alcohol.

The flavor is sweet toffee malts and dark fruits with a lot of harsh alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a sweet boozy mess. It tastes a bit like their dubbel with a ton of alcohol.

Bottled recently.

Toasted caramel color with a fleeting etched surface with light tan foam. Smells like cherry cough syrup with some bits of cocoa and coffee, a little marshmallow and yeast as well. Very sweet, cherry, some nougat, some medicinal syrup, not really feeling this. Medium on thin for the style with tight, clean carb and a semi dry finish. One and done here
