Notes/Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

Fresh off the truck - not even in the store's computer system yet. Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish Head oversized snifter.

Clear Princeton orange body with a lasting smattering of off white foam that settles to a ropey collar and a mottled surface slick. Decent retention, delicate lacing, very faint legs.

Herbaceous, not-quite-skunky aromatics with a strong but secondary note of sweetness alternating between honey and peach/mango. Spicy and potent.

Citrus and passion fruit on the palate with a long lingering peppery herbal note to back things up. Hops all the way through, though there is a clean but strong malt backbone to provide balance. Very slightly soapy finish with a touch of pine sap. Nice full bitterness. Dry woodsy finish brings you back for more punishment. Faint aftertaste of dark herbal tea (maybe from the Calypso hops?). The sweetness seems to come out more as you habituate to the bitterness and as the ale warms a bit.

Medium-bodied, carbonation is well dialed to maximize the bite of the hops without getting in the way of their flavor. Very faintly sticky.

While I think Ranger is a better beer, this is a good unapologetic version of the style and a good value. While not in the same league as anything from Russian River (for example), I think it would only be slightly outclassed by many mid-tier offerings like Hop Henge, Hoptimum, etc.

13 oz bottle from Tipples. Pours a beautiful golden orange color with a fluffy white one finger head. Nice floral hop aroma , bready malts, citrus peel, grass, pine. Flavor is nice bitter pine, floral notes, lightly sweet bready malts. Body is medium to light, somewhat dry, bitterness on the tongue, with medium plus carbonation. This goes down very easy. A slight dirtiness on the finish is my only complaint, and it is very strange. But an otherwise solid DIPA that’s easy to find, and nice and light for the style. Just a weird flavor here and there that I can’t put my finger on.

Pours a clear light amber with good amount of off white head and good retention. Aroma is hoppy with citrus peachy, and herbal notes. Taste follows with some grainy notes in the background. Mouthfeel is puckering. Overall a fine beer. A read on the low end for an imperial I think though.

12 oz. bottle poured into nonic pint

A-Poured with a nice finger of bubbles which took their time dissipating. Crystal clear, golden in color.

S-Orange, pine and some floral notes.

T-Fairly bitter with some of the same characteristics of the smell. However, it felt more bitter than flavorful. I think the hop character was lost in this one (it wasn't clear on bottle, but this might've been sitting around for a while).

M-Nice medium-full body with adequate carbonation and lingering bitterness.

O-Not quite as good as I remember it. However, still not a bad drinking bigger IPA in a six. The bang-for-your-buck factor is certainly there. I might review again one day and see if I can get one a little fresher.
