Notes/Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

Appearance (4) : Tall, foamy white head that stands about four fingers. Carbonation bubbles in the honey-golden body spiral up to meet the foam from the bottom of the glass. Retention is about three fingers with generous lacing.

Smell (4) : mandarin oranges, bitter citrus, pine, ginger. A little bready. Dominant smell is the mandarin orange. Typical IPA but a tad more artsy.

Taste (3.75) : Pretty strong! but good. I keep wanting to cough. The bitter tastes are pleasant and sweet, leaning towards cascade hops and citrus rind. This is way better than "Ranger". Refreshing and leaves a tinge of peach on the finish.

Mouthfeel (3.5) : creamy, wet, full bodied. Ends wet.

Overall (3.82) : This IPA is tasty - and I generally HATE IPA's. it goes down easy and doesn't leave me heaving over the garbage can (okay maybe an exaggeration). Try it, you will probably like it.

Yeah, this is really good. Definitely one of my favorite that New Belgium putts out. For a DIPA this one is a little tangier than some, more fruity and orange like in the nose. Nice copper red body, good carbonation, poured into a snifter. Presentation has a lot going for it right now, I've got it at a great temperature and its leaving a beautiful lace on my glass. Nutty and hoppy, somewhat oily, even a little vegetable (celery or onion?) like in the taste. Aftertaste has some nice malted backbone. This is solid. Good beer. That orange kick is a bit interesting, not good or bad. Some brown sugar like sweetness at the end. I like it, and would buy it again.
