Notes/Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. Label says 17NOV13

A- Pours a medium amber color with a ½ inch light tan head that retains quite well before slowly sinking to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient cascading lacing.

S- Wonderful hop aroma that's very vibrant and citrusy. Decent amount of cereal grain sweetness.
T- Big attack of piney bitterness that lingers a while. Citrus notes of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit. The alcohol is concealed well underneath all the raging hops. The bitterness gets to be a bit much after a while but it doesn't ruin the drink overall.

M- Bitey and sharp with a slick, oily afterfeel. Medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- I like this a bit better than Ranger although the alpha acids are surely on overdrive in this one.

Got this after reading the review in Zymurgy Mag.

A - Deep golden color. Mostly clear with lots of white head and strong lacing.

S - Extra strong hop fragrance with lots of herbal and resiny tones. Could smell it before I picked it up. Almost perfume like from the magnitude of aromatics.

T - Full flavored with a pungent hop character that has resin, herb, and some fruit with alcohol and malt to round it out. Light bitterness for such high IBUs but that is due to the larger amount of late additions and strong maltiness.

M - Strong mouth-feel with over the top carbonation. Lingering finish with hops, malt, and alcohol.

Overall, a solid IIPA. Good aroma, flavor, feel, appearance, but doesn't have my much preferred citrus character usually in an iipa. This brew isn't a light beer but if you like big, resiny, and complex beer I'd recommended it.

12 ounce bottle, 01Sept13 on the label.

A- medium amber near clear with bubbles continuing to rise. Off white head , thicker film , medium collar and ample fine low rings of lace.

Strong roasted onions/garlic note on the nose (strange indeed) and some minor fruit and hop notes.

Boldly hopped up ale. Hops grainy and herbal. Grapefruit yes but in moderation. Smooth and quite drinkable with ample malts smoothing out the finish.

If you can get past the nose, you will enjoy this DIPA...

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A - tangerine color with a reddish hue. Very clear with about 1 finger of foamy white head.

S - Nice cirtusy scents here. Grapefruit, peaches, mango's. A small amount of piney smell also. No alcohol present.

T - Grapefruit, followed by some nice piney bitterness, then you get a tad bit of the stone fruit(not as much as the nose indicated or I would have liked) followed by a mildly boozy finish. Some floral hops in the aftertaste.

M - Medium to full body, good amount of carbonation.

O - This was not a bad DIPA, not blowing my hair back but still good. At its price point not a bad buy.

clear light copper color thick head dies to thin layer with a chunk or two of foam left, nice carbonation from the bottom. good job on appearance. nose seems a bit lacking considering the flavor is solid ipa, with a bit of maturity rather than a hop bomb. lemon more so than usual (maybe the mosaic and calypso hops are doing that?), piney, malts back it up but are struggling a bit to do so. feel up front is sharp, but smooths out in back. leaves a bit of bitter on the tongue.

update - 1.1.14 - new label, didn't recognize it at first. still as solid as before, hops are very pronounced, but without the slap-in-the-face bitterness that marks a rookie. bumping my appearance score from 3.75 to 4 because the lacing is awesomely sticky from top to bottom.
