American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

12 oz part of a sixer from Fred Meyer in N.Salem $7.99 a six. Clear bright orange colour in appearance, with a nice sized thick bubbly white head, Aroma..fruity really almost like pink lady apples, floral hop, cherry, strange no malt for an imperial. Taste is also very balanced but this time the chewy, caramel malts are visible to restrain the floral ,fruity hop. MOuth feel is fine enough actually good for style. An unusual beer not really an Imperial IPA though, not to say I didn’t enjoy

Read the reviews, the opinions are all over the place, then read the Rampart web site, different still. Gotta make up your own mind about this one, stirs something different in each taster. That is the mark of a fine beer.... Confuse and conquer! Buy several and get your craft Brew drinking friends over to nail it down.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Franklin's Brewery & General Store in NW D.C., bottled 10/6/13, poured into my *** glass, drank 10/25/13 during P St. IPA Fest.

A: 3/3 - golden-orange coloration, nice clarity (can see but not read through), initial soapy white head dissipates into subtle glass lacing, moderate alcohol legs which re-agitates the carbonation on swirling

S: 9/12 - there's heavy floral character to this one, especially as the beer warms - dandelion and tulips on my nostrils , some dank piney-resiny aromas punch through likely 2/2 to Simcoe and Chinook

T: 18/20 - on the anterior tongue, floral citrus bitterness is present and accounted but not overwhelming; it the middle of the mouth, the bitterness continues to linger with some pils balance and muted alcohol flavors; finishes drier than the already-dry Stone IPAs; aftertaste is a pleasant citrus flavor that invites sip after sip...after sip (if I had more!)

M: 3/5 - moderate body with resiny hop oils sitting on the tongue, the alcohol is present at 6.5% ABV and wish that it was more muted; solid carbo

O: 8/10 - not a huge fan of the non-sour profile for New Belgium but this one came correct with Cascade, Simcoe and Chinook for a fabulous floral light DIPA that challenges Flower Power for a single; recommended, especially after watching...

Nice copper color with a thinning white head. Nose is fruit punchy with citrus and grassy hops and caramel to back it up. The flavor is more subdued than the aroma with some alcohol astringency. Still a nice hop/malt balance with good body. Not the best Imp. IPA out there, but worth a try like most new belgium 6ers for the price.
