American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

22oz, BBD 12/29/13

A: Clear yellow/orange color. Thin layer of slightly off white bubbles head. Leaves some nice lacing.

S: Earthly and piney hops. That onion and garlic character. Then some sweetness. Smells pretty good, but a little different.

T: Really nice punch in the tongue of herbaceous hops. Nice pine. Earthy hops. Mellows in the mid palate. Some sweetness from the malts. Still lays on the hop side of things. Finish is really quite dry.

M: Medium bodied. Smooth.

serve it in a tulip glass to get the full bouquet, this Imperial IPA is, IMHO, the best beer that New Belgium makes. Mosaic, Calypso, Centennial hops balanced with a hint of toasted malt make this one of my favorites, and a benchmark I judge other Imperial IPA's by. With a lovely citrus aroma, dry finish and a delicious fruity aftertaste, I can't find another IPA as good for $7 a six pack...

Pours a clear copper with a big off-white head. A huge aspirin aroma, with hints of pine and citrus as well. Taste begins with a huge mint flavor, followed by a rich toffee and bread middle, and a piney citrus finish with hints of aspirin. Mouthfeel is very smooth. Overall a good IIPA, but a bit too much aspirin character for my liking.
