This beer is something that grew on me as I drank it. I wasn't quite ready for the sour taste but after a few sips I started to enjoy the flavor more. It's fair that it "soursop" and "monkfruit" on the label. I should have read that before I sipped. Really though, it's a good seasonal beer. I's be thoughtful about what I'd pair it with and I'd probably drink it again although there are many other beers I'd choose first.

A: A slightly hazy pale golden beer with a white head made of tiny bubbles that leave a fine lacing on the glass.

S: A medium-strong citrus hops blending with a fruity aroma that starts off almost smelling like spicy German hops but then becomes more clearly an herbal fruitiness with a spicy quality.

T: There is a medium hops bitterness with a fruity, herbal sort of a bitterness backing that up. There is a lime zest sort of character to the fruit along with a bitter herbal tea. There is some citrus hops blending in there as well. The malt is mild bringing very little sweetness giving a balance that is moderately bitter. The finish is very dry with a lingering citrus peel and herbal bitterness.

M: A medium-light bodied beer with a strong level of carbonation.

O: A bitter Belgian Pale that has a fair amount of citrus hops flavor along with a bitter herbal and unusual citrusy, fruit component. A refreshing beer for the Summer that has a lot going on.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear yellow with a medium frothy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is floral grains with some fruits.

The flavor is sweet bready malts, earthy yeast with some fruits, lemon zest and spices (corriander). The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent light spicy fruity Belgian.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Great lacing, clear pale golden hue. Earthy nose with suggestions of lemon pith, licorice root, herbal phenols, faint bread crust, and exotic fruit. Mild crispness, lighter bodied, crackers, peppery, slightly bitter, phenolic, mineral, deep herbal tone, dying finish with a long lingering after taste.

Not half bad, a lot going on for a lighter brew and seems to take away from the drinkability a smidgen. Never had a beer with Monk Fruit & Soursop before.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Tulip.

Appearance: Pale straw yellow with foamy, clingy, stark white head.

Smell: Wheat, apples, lemon, pepper, some zest.

Taste: Crackery and peppery with overtones of hay and lemon. Very spicy and bitter, distractingy so as it steals from the flavor profile. Tart aftertaste, which I appreciate.

Feel: Light body wih crisp carbonation. Finish is very dry.

Overall: No idea what the soursop and monkfruit and contributing, and I am not sure about how Belgian this is. Seems more like a very light bodied but very bitter Pilsner, with a splash of fruit and tartness.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a New Belgium Globe glass. Bottle says best before 25th of August 2013.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear yellowish golden orange with a lot of bubbles. Solid three fingers of white head that slowly fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of clinging lacing.

Smell: A fruity and fairly spicy aroma with a good grassy and malty presence. Earthy and floral hops upfront with good hints of grass. Bright and crisp hints of citrus orange, lemon, and melon. I'm not sure what soursop or monkfruit smell like, but there are quite a bit of fruity esters going on here. Pale malts with hints of biscuit, grains, hay, crackers, and oats. Also some hints of pepper spicing. A pretty nice crisp aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a crisp and earthy taste with lots of fruit esters and pale malt. Good taste of earthy hops upfront with floral notes and a good dose of grass. Citrus hop notes of lemon, orange, and melon. Some wine grape like fruit notes that I assume come from the monkfruit and soursop. Quite complex with the fruit taste. Bready pale malts with notes of biscuit, grains, hay, crackers, oats, and yeast. A solid crisp taste with nice subtle fruit undertones.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Very crisp and smooth. Finishes fairly dry.

Overall: A pretty solid lighter summer beer. Good grassy hop notes and a nice complex mix of fruit esters.

12 ounce bottle - $1.69 - dated Best Before: 15Sept.2013. Served in a snifter.

Appearance: This ale looks like a typical lager, with a pale yellow body and a smallish white head.

Smell: This ale does NOT smell like a typical lager. Instead, there are notes of soursop and monkfruit - honestly, I don't know what either of these ingredients smell like, but the aroma is certainly unusual and these are likely suspects. Hints of lemon pith and light biscuits. More odd and interesting than appealing.

Taste: Lightly tart, bitter and fruity, with the odd flavors I again suspect stem from the use of soursop and monkfruit.

Mouthfeel: Near medium body. Medium carbonation. Dry, crisp, clean finish.

Overall: A distinct, intriquely and lightly fruity ale. Not sweet but instead mildly tart with a bit of bitterness.

(Served in a globe glass)
A- This beer pours a clear pale lemon yellow body with a soft peak egg cream head being supported by a gentle carbonation.

S- The green woody hops have a soft no sweet fruit note to follow ans some pale malt notes in the background.

T- The dry breadfruit blends with some green woody hops flavors and a slightly spicy green note in the dry finish. There is a gentle green bitterness that lingers and a tart fruit hint that comes through as it warms.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle fizz and a dry mouthfeel in the finish.

O- The unique fruit flavors blend with hops in a very nice light crisp summer beer that turns just a little pithy as it warms, making nice to drink but not as sessionable as other beers.
