Poured a slightly caramel-tinged amber-tan color with big bubbles.
The aroma is unmistakably pumpkin-ny. Not spiced pumpkin, as in a pie, but more like that smell of sliced and peeled on the way to being boiled pumpkin. (Yes, I’ve prepped many a pumpkin for pie in my time.) It’s backed by a subtle cranberry tartness, and it’s not altogether unwelcome.
Where this beer falls apart for me is on the palate. What I was expecting was two great tastes which play well together. At least thematically. And the elements are there—I can taste the pumpkin (well, pumpkin extract?) as it lends a rounded malty sweetness to the beer, and contrasts with a tart cranberry sharpness. But they don’t play well together and the dry, lingering and somewhat unpleasant finish (like licking a piece of chalk) doesn’t help. Avoid.
