The tap pours out a bright pale-medium yellow beer that settles with complete transparency. The dense off-white head manages one finger and the lace dropped on the pint glass is creamy, consisting more of patching than anything and on the plentiful side.
This is where it gets tricky. It's a pleasant beer overall, one I could drink all night, but there are certain style guidelines it's pointless to call a beer a Berliner Weiss without meeting. I get fruit like stonefruit, soft and tropical, giving it an overall firm tropical aroma, sweet but on the easy side, with a soft backbone of wheat. What I don't get is lacto, dryness or appropriate tartness.
I'm surprised in the flavor by some of the reviews, though; this is decidedly and strongly both tart and sour. It goes sweet in the middle but ultimately finishes up with the same sour and tart combination, tasting at one point like pineapple juice. The other elements that would be telling of a Berliner are still missing, to a point.
A sharp bite on the tongue is countered by a fluffiness even alongside its harder edge to soften it. It's got a good body, appropriately light but with a heft. Originally, not knowing it was a Berliner, nothing was out of kilter. Knowing that as I sip another pint later, it's clearly missing the dryness and twang that make the great ones in this style truly great.

Poured out of a bomber into a weiss glass. Nice bright yellow with good sticking on the head. Semi-opaque. Not the prettiest as some other berliners, but who drinks beer for the looks!! Smell is very weak, almost nothing.

Taste is bright, bright, BRIGHT! Complemented by the bubbly feeling, champagne like. 8% ABV surprises me - I can't taste it. The beer almost springs off your tongue and you're hit with a significant aftertaste of tart citrus. Refreshing and a good complement to spicy food. I dig it.

Bomber poured into a snifter. The brew appears a pale golden yellow color with a white string lace effect sticking to the glass. Overall it plays the part of a berliner with the exception of the head which lasts well beyond the duration of the typical berliner.

The aroma contains mostly a scent of pickled ginger coupled with lemon. Artificially sweetened yogurt and a bit of lacto funk/feet. As it warns up, it starts to get a light struck skunky feel to it.

The taste mimics the nose in that it is tart and filled with a flavor like pickled ginger. A little bit of lemon candy sweet/tart contrast, yogurt and slight skunk and sulfur notes.

This is medium bodied with a modest amount of carbonation. It is interesting but tapers off as it warms. By all accounts, this beer takes my favorite style of beer and completely bastardizes it. 8 percent alcohol is a stretch even by "imperial" standards. Comically enough, this beer was not as bad as I expected. It really is more of a fruit beer though with an overall feel more like ginger soda/beer than berliner. I would drink this again for what it is...but a berliner it is not.

We'll played New Belgium. Berliner Weiss on the bottle got me to buy it and this is no Berliner Weiss. Sadly styles like this are become diluted in name.

Ok there is a hint of that character I there I guess, just not sure it's the same at 8 percent.

Then throw in the massive citrus flavor and hmmm.

Sort of like a warm Blue Moon with orange squeezed in. Sorry that's what it tastes like.

A swing and miss on this one guys.

Had this on 2014-02-02 in Columbia, PA

A - Hazy yellow with a short head that fades fast and leaves zero lacing.

S - Moderately sour smelling but with some rock candy sweetness. Some straw. Orange blossom.

T - The Yuzu imparts a unique citrus flavor. Some lemon. Pretty sweet. Not as tart as the smell. Very light malt. Kind of insipid tasting. Finishes dry and more tart than in the finish than at the start.

M - Light-medium body and light carbonation. Pleasant.

O - A decent but not very exciting brew. Tasted it with my wife who really likes sours and this one didn't make it too far up the preferred list.

cloudy gold with a thin, bright white head that quickly settles to just about nothing.

Smell is lemon jolly ranchers, pledge, hay and brett funk

Taste is tart lemon/yuzu up front followed by funk. First tastes are a bit on the candy citrus side, but mellow a bit as it warms.

Pretty thin mouth

It's definitely not like any Berliner Weisse I've had, though I certainly don't hate it for that. If this were labeled as anything other than a "Imperial Berliner Weisse", it'd probably get better reviews.Worth trying for anyone who is a fan of sours
