Interesting approach with this one, comes off sweeter than a traditional Berliner Weisse but just in the aftertaste. Due to high ABV? The mild sourness does accent the fruity citrus well. Starts with orange and lime fruitiness, kind of yeasty, then corn nuts, then soap, with an alcohol finish. Becomes soapier the more I drink it. Still, not in an un-enjoyable way. wth is a yuzu? Not bad, not as good as most other Lips of Faith I've sampled. 68/100

this beer is actually done very well!...at first i agreed with all these other people, because it doesn't fit the "standard" berliner weisse! then i went to the brewery website and saw they used "yuzu" in it, a Chinese citrus fruit, after this beer warmed a bit, i really began to taste the tart, sourness, and "yuzu"! they really did a great job on this ale!

Clear pale golden, highly carbed with steady rush of bubbles feeding a thin snow white head.

Wheaty flour on the nose, slight hints of clove and sweet fruit.

Hmm, not really digging it. The fruitiness combined with the abv make it seem almost like a wine cooler. Sweettart and a breath of spice on the finish.

Not nearly as crisp as I expected given how bubbly it is. Semi-syrupy.

I'm still game for trying at least a bottle of most of the Lips of Faith series but won't be repeating this one.

Poured from a bomber into a stemless wine glass

A- pours a slightly hazy yellow with a gorgeous two finger white head. Looks about par for the course for a Berliner

S- light lemony aroma. Nothing going on here at all.

T- Berliner weisse are supposed to be sour. Or at least "refreshingly tart". This is neither. It tastes like a citrus soft drink, mostly sweet with oranges. Not a bad taste, but not what I expected at all - might as well label it "New Belgium Yuzu Wheat", that way I wouldn't have paid 8.99 expecting something tart

M- the body delivers on the "imperial" label, as this is a rather thick beer. But dammit, it's so sweet that the body doesn't add anything to the beer, and instead takes away from the experience

O- this isn't what I expected at all. It's not your typical Berliner weisse, and as someone who loves the style, that disappoints me.

22oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

(A)- Pours a hazy pale yellow color. Some good pure white froth with surprising retention and lacing for the style.

(S)- A lively dry and funky band-aid0like grassiness. Every so slight hint of a fruity tartness in there.

(T)- I am not familiar with yuzu fruit, but there is an obvious fruity profile to the taste throughout that kind of reminds me of a lemon combined with cantalope. The same dry funky band-aid grassiness from the smell. Ever so slightly sweet on the finish. Not really tart or sour really.

(M)- A nice lively carbonation level. I like the combo of dryness and the fruit, but a little too medicinal in the middle; could use some tartness to really drive this home.

(O)- Its not bad. I appreciate some of its characters and using a unique fruit I have never heard of, but otherwise, a bit disappointing for a berliner, and from a brewery I know can do good sours.

On tap at Fox and Hound Winston-Salem

A: Pours slightly hazy with a color that somewhere between straw and yellow highlighter. About one finger white head that fades quickly and leaves little lacing.

S: Wheat with a lemony citrus aroma coming through. A bit of a sour/tart aroma as well.

T: Slightly tart. Citrus fruit. Wheat. A little funk coming through.

M: Medium bodied, refreshing, fishing on the dry side.

O: An ok brew. Missing some of the things a Berliner Weissbier should hit. Wish a bit more sour attributes of the style were present in this one.

Another oddball brew in the Lips series. Might as well try every fruit. This one seems to blithely skip through several categories, so I'll just have to review this as a Silly Brew. Kind of a fermented pineapple aroma to start.

Looks nice enough with bubbles streaming up the tall Pilsener glass. A modest foam on the yellow brew, but plenty of spritz on the tongue. The interesting part is this has that "meaty" sensation encountered in a Bière de Mars and Saisons sometimes. It's an odd savory note that goes with the strange fruit that is something like citron and pear.

You could call this a tropical fruit soda with a taste of tamarind. I think this is the set-up for a real beer cocktail-- how about a dose of light rum and maybe a cherry? From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Baron's Marketplace on West Point Loma.

22 oz bomber pours a fairly clear gold color with an ample cap of creamy white head. Average retention and lace.

Nose is snappy wheat, lemony fruit and maybe a shimmer of tartness. Kind of like a box of Lemonheads dusted with Smartees.

Taste is certainly fruity, the yuzu seems to be an earthy, pithy fruit with some tartness, but it is different than one would expect from a nicely lacto'ed berliner. A fruited wheat beer (and not that great of one), maybe...but calling it a berliner weisse is a farce. I'll have trouble choking this one down. These LOF series beers are more miss than hit.
