This winter, IBUs start accumulating like snow in Colorado with our new Accumulation White IPA. Brewing a white IPA was not only a way to salute the white beauty falling from the sky, but a direct revolt to the longstanding tradition of brewing dark beers for winter. At least that’s what our rebellious brewer Grady Hull likes to claim as he shovels in plenty of new hop varietals and a bit of wheat for a smooth mouthfeel. Stack up a few cases of Accumulation White IPA to keep your long nights glowing blizzard white.

DATE TASTED: February 6, 2016... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint.. OCCASION: just finished off The Battle of the Five Armies with Shan and the boys--a rousing success... APPEARANCE: a flurry of white rushes to join the thick blanket of head that shows thick, clinging, single-finger creaminess; the body is the slightest bit hazy but otherwise clean... AROMA: bright pineapple, grapefruit, orange peel and lemon offer an alluring introduction; some spices--pepper and nutmeg--strike subtly with suggestions of light biscuit... PALATE: palate-cleansing smoothness, with nary a suggestion of complexity until its very end...creamy and effervescent, making a throaty getaway with a finish that requests a second sip...TASTE: the impact of hops--and the accompanying grapefruit, lemon and pineapple--with cracker as slight maltiness and sweetness... though not balanced, a flavorful addition of bubblegum and yeastiness that softens the impact... OVERALL: indeed, piled high with IBUs...light--actually, not at all what I imagine a snowed-in IPA would taste like--but flavorful and drinkable, airy and inspiring... a solid New Belgium product that makes me want to sample more of them....

L- Very pretty beer, very nice frosty head that takes a minute to dissipate. Extremely light tannish color, almost clear. Very interesting looking
S- The smell is great. I get piney, sweet, crisp, and citrusy aromas from this beer.
T- Not as strong as I expected it to be, it has a nice citrusy and hoppy flavor with a classic IPA bitterness. But honestly the flavor isn't as strong as I'd like. The flavor good enough.
F- Light and carbonated.
O- The look and smell of this beer is pretty great. The flavor isn't as good as I wanted it to be. Overall a pretty good IPA.

A - A beautiful beer. Light gold with a small head. Very cloudy. Carbonation pervasive.

S - Peach and tangerine shine through. Noticeable hop presence. Very solid.

T - Hops more present in the taste. Citrus. Orange peel.

M - Full-bodied with considerable carbonation.

O - A very pleasant beer. Thankful that it is mild out because not what I would be looking for on a snowy winter night. Great nonetheless.

12 fluid oz bottle (courtesy of the Winter Folly pack).
Glass - Nonic pint.
Look - Hazy straw yellow looking like a snowglobe. (No shaking necessary.) Fluffy white head that settles slowly into an island of fluff. Lacing surrounds the glass.
Smell - Citrus, lots of it. Warm yeast blooms.
Taste - Citrus. Wet bready malt. No bitterness.
Feel - Soft and creamy. Nicely carbonated. Easy drinking.
Overall - Totally delicious white IPA seasonal. Perfect beer to get snowed in with.

Poured into a Burial Beer Co. wine-style glass. Label says Enjoy By: 03APR16.

A- Pours a slightly hazy medium golden color with a 1/2 inch white head that retains decently before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and some small splotches of bubbly surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Lovely dry-hopped aroma of citrusy hops, NB's house yeast and a bit of malt backing.

T- Great yeasty flavor coupled with bright hops and a slight malt sweetness. So very drinkable with moderate bitterness.

M- Soft feel but with some sharpness from the hops countering. Medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- I don't get the low score for this one. One of my favorite NB beers and I love that they went the hoppy route for their winter seasonal since the IPAs and such are more scarce this time of year.

Poured at 44°F from a 12oz bottle (enjoy by date 28Feb16) into a Spiegelau IPA glass. Allowed to warm up to 45°F before drinking. Consumed on 20Jan16.
LOOK: Pours with a fingers worth of white foam that refuses to dissipate even after 3 minutes. There is a plethora of small and medium-sized rising bubbles that explain why the head won't die. Yellow in color with a slight amount of cloudiness. Lacing is high in quantity and think, thick, and very thick in various areas (lacing diversity is aesthetically pleasing).
SMELL: A bunch of mild aromas: piney hops, mangos, peaches, apricots, papaya, grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, and bready malts.
TASTE: Strong piney hop flavors enter initially and are immediately followed by subtle mango, peach, apricot, and papaya flavors. Mild flavors of oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines keep the ball rolling as all previous flavors grow slightly stronger. Mild bitter hop and bready malt flavors enter lastly as all previous flavors now maintain.
FEEL: Somewhere between medium-bodied and light-bodied. Carbonation is moderate. Goes down somewhat smooth. Finishes very dry. Too dry. Horribly dry.
NOTE: An above average American IPA. Definitely enjoyable.

Golden yellow in color with a bright white fluffy head, I got about 2 fingers worth and a respectable amount of lacing. Smells clean and fresh, with some lemon and pineapple. Taste is very crisp and refreshing, lots of bright hop notes with some wheaty flavors to balance it out and keep it from being too intense of an IPA. Feel is light and with low carbonation. It doesn't seem like it would be a wintery type beer but somehow it works, I'll be buying more next year.

Pours pale yellow. Smell and taste is citrus-heavy, tending towards bitter lemon. Carbonation is a little on the creamy side, almost stout-like, good for the season. Overall an interesting take on a seasonal IPA, would get it again next year.

Very interesting beer. Poured from bottle into my trusty shaker and that was the beginning of my fascination with this New Belgium item. I'm pretty surprised nobody else commented on the appearance of this beer. Its definitely unfiltered, but when first poured it comes out clear with an opaque cloud that cascades down from the top and slowly swirls down to the bottom. It almost looks like its still being poured after its already poured. If you have this beer, I highly recommend that you let it sit for a minute and watch how this beer settles, I've never seen anything like it. Really brings to mind a heavy layer of snowfall like the bottle and name indicates.
Smell is pretty hoppy, citrusy, and strong. Really rather standard for a white IPA.
Taste is close to the smell, lots of citrus with a bitter finish with an easy and creamy mouthfeel that makes this beer easily drinkable to me.

A winter beer that is all about the summer, Accumulation is bursting the citrus hops. There is pineapple all over the aroma, though it is more of the fruit cup variety, not the freshly squeezed. taste profile is similar, meaning it elicits lots of tropical citrus flavors, but it has an odd artifical flavoring, like drinking a Hi C, if Hi C was made with hops. Finishes with a fairly bitter edge. I could probably crush a few of these at the beach, but it certainly isn't a winter beer.

Drank from the bottle because I have no fancy glasses. Very hopsy to the nose, mostly pine. Carbonation was a little flatter than I like. Tastes like I expected an IPA to taste like, more to the pine and less to the grapefruit though. Goes down smooth, though. This was my first white IPA, I didn't even know it was a thing.

Had this poured into a pint glass. Limited white head on top of a golden translucent golden yellow body. Aroma is mostly hops, citrusy. Flavor is mostly ipa, you cant really taste the hops with a nice crisper, light and clean finish. Mouthfeel is as youd hope, not too harsh. I feel like this genre is usually too much white and not enough ipa, but these guys get it right. Probably the best white ipa ive had.

The beer was a pale/blonde color and was kinda cloudy. Head was small, but thick. The most distinctive thing was the floral/fruity smell which tasted the same. Smooth mouthfeel and body, pretty good

Wow! I am surprised, a bigger craft brewer like New Belgium you'd think would have cut a few corners - but nah! Reminds me of a couple other favorite IPA's, really citrusy, rad hops that jump out at the nose. Christmasy type beer with a great lacing and a beautiful body. Very golden colored, fresh beer with many complex flavorings. A little dry of a finish.. which only makes you more thirsty! Cool beer, warms my bones just to drink it. I grabbed this in my select a 6 pack, and I would not hesitate to grab it again. The store labelled the single on 12/21/15, but I cannot for the life of me find when it was bottled. It says "Enjoy by: 15819 3 24 Apr, 151124 08 1 T114" which I have no damn idea what it means! But it's a great beer, a more than great holiday beer, and gives me a nice refined buzz! My favorite New Belgium offering I've had the pleasure of sampling.

I really enjoyed this beer. I poured it from a 12 oz bottle into a clean pint glass.

Color- A lighter golden color.

Smell- Citrus

Head- Thick and Lacey

Taste & Mouth feel- Taste of citrus/lemon with a strong grassy element. Sizzled like alka seltzer as far as feel. Very smooth & palatable beer.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 6.2% abv

Appearance- Pours a bright lemon yellow with a 2 finger white head. Much lacing. Very clear.

Smell- Fresh grains, lemon, grassy.

Taste- Quite grainy, a bit sweet with an earthy grassy flavor the blends well with the grapefruit bitterness that builds. The citrus and bitter flavors end with a dry lasting finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium in body with lively carbonation.

Overall- A tasty citric IPA. In some ways this is a cross between a Belgian IPA and a witbier. I got next to no belgian yeast notes but more of a lemony witbier quality which led me to a confusion to what style this beer is. Nevertheless not a bad choice.

I guess, call it a white IPA; I don't pick up the "white" characteristics, but the beer as an IPA is superb! Super tasty and easy drinking. Chug a lug.

S- Citrus, salt
T- Fresh citrusy hops, nice sharp finish that reminds me of taking a deep breath of cold air
M- Amazing--nice bubbly bite that perfectly complements the flavor
O-I usually go for darker beers in the winter, but this white IPA has made reconsider my position. If you ever loved eating snow as a kid (or an adult), this beer is for you:)

Poured into a mug: color is straw, transparent, head is bright white with a mixture of bubble sizes, that lingers and laces well.

Smell is subdued, at least at first, definitely more grassy, earthy hops, then some light biscuit.

Taste is great, nice balance of fresh earthy hops and clean fermented malt with a light yeast character.

Mouthfeel is also very well done, very light and fresh and easy to drink.

Overall, a great different IPA, lighter but full of flavor.

Pours a straw color with a finger of head. The nose has a mild hoppiness to it. The body and flavor are pretty thin even for a Belgian/White IPA.

This is certainly sessionable but there is nothing extraordinary here.

Pours a hazy yellow/orange with a fluffy white head that settles nice and slow. Lacing is good as you drink. Aroma is fresh orange peel, floral and citric hops, faint wheat and lightly toasted grains. Fresh tasting hop notes of citrus, pine, and floral cones deliver a nice upfront flavor while a smooth wheat and light malt roast cover the taste buds gently. Very light carbonation gives this beer a smooth, light, easy drinking feel. I will definitely buy this again it was beyond my expectations!

This was a strange beer. I had it on tap at a tasting. The initial smell was horrible. That smell did not come through at all in the taste and was a pretty good tasting beer. Strange but I would stay away if that smell infuses in the beer.
