Picked this up at the brewpub in San Luis Obispo back in December (very shortly after it was bottled). Bottle #4.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter.

Appearance: Standard pour nets a short, consistent, layer of brown foam, which descends to a wispy crown fairly quickly. Body is pitch black; opaque, even when held to light. Thick blankets of lacing follow the beer all the way down. Looks great!

Smell: Roasted malts, vanilla, mocha, and... something off. It's kind of like a mix between cardboard and metal. It's not too off-putting, but it certainly plays a large role.

Taste: Uh oh. Smoke and roasted malts are quickly kicked aside by sharp, sour berry flavors. Acrid roast shoots through briefly, before being taken over again by strong and unpleasant sourness. Bleh. This is really bad. Definitely infected.

Mouthfeel: Horribly over-carbonated, tart, dry, acidic, and thin. Lots of char and tartness cling to the palate deep into the aftertaste.

Overall: Silent Night and Holy Night were Creekside's first bottled beers, and they were each hand-bottled in house. While the Holy Night held up alright, it doesn't seem like the Silent Night did. Too bad, especially since I've got another bottled stored away.

NOTE: If the next bottle isn't infected, I'll rewrite this review.

On-Tap at the Brewery, 10 oz pour.

A- Pitch plack, with a tan head which lingers.

S- Mostly coffee, some dark malts and a faint whiff of alcohol.

T-COFFEE. ALCOHOL. Little balance, one dimensional. Little discernable hop presence. Finishes with a cloying toffee that clings to my mouth. Very unpleasant.

M-Lightly carbonated and smooth, though the high acidity gives me pause.

D-Marred by serious flaws and as a result, drinkability is almost zero. I finished the glass because I was thirsty not because I enjoyed the experience.

I usually like creekside, but this just didn't stand out. This beer has been in their rotation for a while, so I'd expect better. In a world of outstanding Imperal Stouts, this one fails.

22oz bottle
Bottle #16 out of ?

This was a gift from a friend that lives in the SLO area. I've sat on this bottle for 6+ months which definitely can't hurt.
A - Dark with a light brown head
S - Smokey, burnt malt
T - Roasted Malt and perhaps some coffee undertones
M - Nice carbonation, significant dry finish
D - This is a beer that I would not go out of my way to purchase. Overall it's a pretty decent beer, however it's nothing to write home about.

Glad to try. Slightly above average. Many others are better. Just my honest opinion.

A: Poured jet black with good carbonation and a tannish head

S: Smell of Caffeinated coffee beans, reminded me of Folgers, is all I smell

T: Coffee beans, raosted malt and some booze.

M: Fell sordove flat to me, coffee, but lacks a bit of finish, acidic, lots of carbonation

D: Average to good
