The setup here is an upstairs restaurant with a deck overlooking the creek and a small pub downstairs. Upstairs is the brewing area and I only took a quick look downstairs but I think there was more brewing equipment down there too. The weather had been rainy but the sun came out and it turned out to be a nice day and they were not busy so I sat on the deck. For beer I had the IPA , it was good but that is all. I felt so comfortable sitting on the deck I ordered a second beer, the Red Ale and a sandwich, the Live Oak Sandwich. The sandwich was superb way way above pub fare.
I was talking with some local people sitting a few tables away and the said the menu is small but every item is done to perfection. They also said that in the summer Creekside is packed and there can be a hour wait for a table.

I visited Creekside over Labor Day weekend. I headed straight downstairs to the bar area, which is sort of a dungeon atmosphere in my opinion. A bit cramped and dingy and claustrophobic really. I was able to try the 5 Creekside beers on tap straight from the source. They came out pretty good but one of the beers seemed to have a slight infection to it. Service was good but I was down there with only one other person. Selection was good for what this place was about - 5 of their own beers on tap with a few guest taps and some bottled offerings. The price was right at $5 for 5 tasters of all their beers. Worth checking out if you don't expect too much from your visit.

I've been here a couple times during business trips to the Central Coast. The upstairs restaurant is usually busy during the day and as the other reviewers mentioned, it sits alongside a nice creek and seems to get better reviews for the atmosphere than the service. It was deserted the night I was there and too cool to sit outside, so I went downstairs to the bar, which is much more of a Rathskellar than a typical California bar or brewpub. The crowd was friendly and a good mix of college students and people more...ahem..closer to my age. Sitting at the bar, I found the service from the bartender to be prompt, friendly and exactly what I expect for a casual pub meal. I had three different pints(all at the special Monday night $3 price). Their Belgian IPA and Double Dark Stout were both good, as was the hoppy Amber style "guest beer" whose name escapes me. I tried to look it up on the website later, but the most recent "guest beer on tap" listing was 6 months old. The Creekside Stout burger was also good, although at $13 bucks, I would expect it to be. While I wasn't in the mood for chatting about the beer, the two guys sitting next to me both ordered sampler trays and had lots of questions. The bartender seemed to be attentive and informative to them, despite their inability to figure out which one of the darkest brews was the Smokey Porter or the Double Dark Stout. It was like listening to a lesson in Beer 101, but the bartender kept the info rolling without skipping a beat. Thanks. I'll be back.

Interesting spot, as far as writing a review for a place.

The location is outstanding. Right over the creek, and the outside tables are the place to be. Super nice on a sunny afternoon, which is when I was there.

Beer leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately. Had their sour wheat and IPA (pints) along with tasters of the other 2 beers they had on tap. Nothing special, and nothing to go out of your way for. As I said, the location is great and a nice spot to get lunch or dinner, but there are better places to get beer in downtown SLO.

Service was OK, not great, but not too bad. If they stepped up the quality of their beers by just a little bit, they would be onto something with their location.

Worth checking out, but don't expect too much from the beer.

Great brewpub atmosphere with the brewing vessels in the center of the restaurant. And "Creekside" isn't just a cute name. There is a small deck with several tables hovering over (literally) San Luis Obispo Creek. It's more or less impossible to avoid both tourists and college students in downtown SLO, so you have to pick your poison if you're a local (or eat away from downtown). I'm at the age where the former bug me less than the latter. Fortunately, at Creekside, the Poly crowd seems to segregate themselves to the bar downstairs and the out of towners sit up stairs with me and my wife and kid. (;

I am acquainted with one of the brewers and actually got to watch some of the production going on while I ate through the glass. Their brewing software was pulled up on a laptop near me. Interesting to watch. They know what they're doing.

My server was courteous, but disorganized. To me, a mostly empty restaurant shouldn't have lag issues--one element of my wife's order came a long time after another, but you needed the one for the other, so we kind of sat there. (Fortunately, we had beer!)

The beer selection is very good, far above average, but, perhaps they could have a few more beers on tap, and even more in bottles. Maybe they know what their customers want, maybe they're still in the trial-and-error phase. If the latter, I would suggest trying to make the place the beer aficionado's equivalent of a place that would get a Wine Spectator selection award. There are a dozen restaurants in town that have dozens and dozens of wines (it is wine country here after all).

Now, here's the thing. The food is f(&%# amazing. It comes off on the menu as a sort of limited choice routine pub food kind of menu, but !wow!. You have to have good food in SLO to survive, because there are tons of great restaurants. People will go somewhere once for the novelty and then not come again if the novelty isn't backed up with high quality at a decent price (more on that in a minute). The owners might be aware of that, since they took over the site from SLO's 5000th anonymous Italian restaurant that in no way distinguished itself from all the others, and thus failed. Whatever the reason, you could go there just to eat and forget about the food. I made a point of sending my compliments to the chef!

Value, I guess, is in the eye of the beholder. To this SLO local, the prices are very reasonable, but restaurant prices are typically quite a bit higher on average around here. To me, the quality of the food was well worth it, and, so to me, it was a great value.

I dropped by on a week day during lunch. I didst have lunch because I ate at the modanna inn before. I did see the cook argue with the waitress about an order that was screwed up. Not very professional. There was only one waitress for several guess which made it hard for her to get things done. She was very nice and on top of it. The atmosphere is very calming and you can hear the water stream.
Not alot of beers offered on tap but plenty of guess bottles. Great beers by far. Their Belgian was a little hoppier than normal but very taste. Great plac to have lunch. The balcony is the best. Try need a bar. I'm sure they work with limited space. Nice place to visit overall.

Went to a tasting here that the owners graciously let us use a banquet room for. Tried some food after. Overall a decent brewpub. Only about 5 or so brews but all decent and solid styles. A few guest taps as well as bottles. Food is very good and reasonably priced. You can go for decent pub fare or classier choices.
The highlights for me were the service and layout. There is a restaurant upstairs w/standard seating, then downstairs a banquet room and bar area. Live music later at night as well. Owner and staff were super nice, and owner even recommended other beer bars in the area (which most bar owners wouldn't do). Overall a pretty fun spot that is fairly new and is worth checking out.

I recently visited this place with my wife and we were both quite impressed. We sat on a little balcony overlooking a beautiful creek. Just inside is the huge fermenters, which I must say are beautiful as well. I had their pale ale and my wife had their wheat beer. The pale ale was great and the wheat beer was average. When we finished those beers we decided to share a stout, which we both liked. Their food selection was mostly sandwiches, but the ones that we ordered were exceptional. Overall our experience at this place was positive and we would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Stopped in here on a Wednesday afternoon with my father and took a seat at the bar which is a nice room with a subterranean feel to it, very cosy. The quality of the beers I had were rather good, with the Stout being a standout of their beers. Einhorn was on tap and quite tasty. Service was great, my father and I were served by the owner not only of Creekside but of Einhorn. I managed to be given a free pint of Einhorn Doppelbock and a free sample of their Wisenbock. Keep in mind, this may bias my rating a bit. The owner was a very interesting man, as was the owner of Einhorn. Selection was good, with 7 beers on tap and a good menu filled with bottled beers ranging from DFH to Duvel.

I'll certainly be stopping in again the next time I'm in town.
