Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a nonic tumbler. Pours a pretty clear golden copper color with 2.5 fingers of creamy white head, good retention and nice lacing. Fine looking brew.

Smells pretty citric hoppy. Lemon in particular. A bit of pale malt. Nice but not exciting.

Tastes good- very drinkable. Malts are pretty evenly balanced with the hops (for an IPA). Pale malt sweetness washes over the palate first, followed by a round hop-tang. Get more lemon towards the end and finishes relatively dry.

Mouthfeel is very nice- medium light body with light to moderate carbonation. Goes down pretty easy and very refreshing. Not bad for 4.49. Not the best IPA but good enough to drink for sure.

Appearance/Aroma:
Deep copper color with a strong, sweet, caramel, malty aroma. Bready and delicious, but not as much hop presence as I would have thought with an IPA?
Taste:
The taste confirms the aroma, with a strong malt presence. It's balanced with a citrusy hop presence: orange peel, grapefruit; but with some pineyness as well. I'd give it overall awesomeness.
Drinkability:
Not thick, not thin, just average for an style/ABV of this sort. Sessionable.
Overall:
Well-balanced, and very drinkable. It's not what I'd get for a real hop craving, but it's definitely an IPA I could session. Good beer.

From the 22 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 12, 2011. The pour is a medium-dark amber and slightly hazy with no head or lacing to speak of. I get some earthy hops on the nose but what I really get is a whole lot more if is grapefruit in all it's tart glory. Maybe some malts if I really sniff hard. It comes across as barnyard-like. The taste has the same grapefruit character as the aroma with slightly more sweetened malts. The hops are much too subtle in my mind to consider this an IPA.

Pours a hazy dark golden tone. Very earthly looking, cant see thru. Thick head, although I may have had an aggressive pour

Hoppy aroma

Earthy hop taste. Orangy citrus and caramel sometimes into bitter hop finish. Theres a hint of malty character, but not much to it and not very present. The bitter is the prominent thing here.

Medium mouthfeel. I didn't really like it for some reason. It was ok, but not digging it.

Overall decent example of the style. Wouldn't get six, but would have 1 or 2

Enjoyed on 6/18/11. Reviewed from notes

A: Pours an amber color. Mostly clear. Finger thick head

S: Good citrus/grapefruit aroma. Some sugary malt on the nose

T: Taste is much more orange and lemon than grapefruit with a caramel malt backbone. Really refreshing.

M: Little bit thicker feel. Light on the carbonation

O: Surprised by this IPA. Tasty and unique flavors. A nice change of pace.

It breaks the traditional model of an IPA, so if you’re expecting intense, liquid hop nectar or west coast bite you won’t find it here, though the hoppyness and bitterness is definitely present enough to warrent it being called an IPA. It’s just different. Medium to full-bodied, and very drinkable Pretty good overall effort.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains earthy hops, caramelized malts and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character up front. Then some sweet flavors of caramel and citrus come in followed by a strong but not over-powering hops presence creating a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, not a bad beer but there are several others that are better in the style.

Notes from brewery tasting.
A hazy yellow slightly darker but not quite an orange color. A decent head that dissipates to an even layer of lace. Nose is a caramel and biscuit malt body that has a nice kick of earthy citrus hops. The body here is great. A fine balance of a full bodied malt bill and some east coast hops. A caramel/biscuit body, just like the nose, with a great kick of citrus, slightly tropical fruit with a nice earthy character. A full bodied IPA with a lot of great subtle characteristics. This IPA isn't try to smack you with hops, which is a good thing.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.

The color is a clear dark amber/gold with two or three fingers of foamy white head and some thick lacing.

The smell is a bit bitter with some spicy hop flavor coming out first in the nose. Upon further inspection there is some lemon flavor mixed with a slight boozy alcohol flavor.

The taste is bitter at first with the same bitterness that was there in the nose. Some sweet malt flavor is hidden behind a wall of bitter hop flavor. It's there and is detectable but is almost washed completely by the bitterness of the hops. As it warms up, and I get used to the bitterness, there is a nice still hop flavor that brings some earthy flavors and reminds me of autumn.

This beer has a good-sized body and it hits with a good-sized hop punch. There is a decent balance to this beer once the beer warms up. The malt is able to shine some and the bitterness lets go. It has a good drinkable feel and goes down well after the first bitter pop.
