Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains earthy hops, caramelized malts and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character up front. Then some sweet flavors of caramel and citrus come in followed by a strong but not over-powering hops presence creating a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, not a bad beer but there are several others that are better in the style.

Amber colour with slight chill haze and a short beige cap. Fine, sticky bubbles clung to the glass. Nice aroma. Hops were citrusy with a bit of spiciness, but fairly light. It was also a bit fruity with a clean malty nose. A little mild overall though. Soft bitterness up front that melded nicely with fruity hop flavours and malt sweetness. Towards the end the bitterness really took over, leaving a resinous, spicy taste that mingled well with the alcohol that was present. Notes of biscuit, caramel, and grassy hops were also present. Medium bodied with carbonation that was a little lower than average, light dryness, nice texture. I liked this one. Refreshing and flavourful, pretty tasty.

From the 22 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 12, 2011. The pour is a medium-dark amber and slightly hazy with no head or lacing to speak of. I get some earthy hops on the nose but what I really get is a whole lot more if is grapefruit in all it's tart glory. Maybe some malts if I really sniff hard. It comes across as barnyard-like. The taste has the same grapefruit character as the aroma with slightly more sweetened malts. The hops are much too subtle in my mind to consider this an IPA.

Bought a 22oz bottle of this last week at Harrington's for $4.49 and I popped it on Labor Day, 05SEP11.

Color was medium copper, and it was a bit muted, or flat. Had steady carbo, but the head was off white and quite thin, mostly a rim-clinger. Lacing was sparse as well. Aroma was somewhat fruity, though really hard to find all-in-all. Body was medium, and the liquid was fairly smooth overall.

Flavor was... different. Had minimal malt, maybe some toasty action if you looked hard. Flavors were not citrussy, or really bitter, but more like green apple and pear. This tasted more like a funky homebrew gone a bit awry. A very big "meh" on this one.

A-Orange in color with a nice head.

S-Well balanced in the nose. Crisp hops and deep malts combine together quite well.

T-More bitter than expected. Piney hops overpower the caramel malt. The bitterness lingers. As the beer warms it becomes more balanced.

M-Fairly heavy body with a smooth finish. Slick and a bit resiny.

D-Nothing to complain about here.

Give it a try support your locals.

Pours somewhat hazy medium orange with cream colored thick head that doesn't last. Not a speck of lacing. WTF.

A nice blend of spicy resinous hops and malt. The malt has a slight sour twang, but it works.

Good hops up front. Piney flavors combined with toasted malt. Not really a sweet beer. I find toasted bread, no caramel. The hops dissipate to bitter malt in the finish. It works, but will not b a favorite of hop bomb lovers.

Medium body. I want a little more carbonation; a little more zip.

Not bad. A decent flavor and a mediocre structure. A good beer overall.

220z bottle, $4.95 from Andover Liquors.

Upon removal of the cap the beer lept out of the bottle revealing a giant puddle on the countertop, and a full pint of pure foam in the glass. About a half bottle loss.
After the settling, the beer is murky in the glass with a dense skim coat and strings of yeasty chunks on the walls of the glass.

Aromatics are disapointingly meek, with barely a trace of piney hops with grainy malt following through.

Medium bodied with a prickly, tacky mouthfeel.

Sweet malt with a lactic twang and hints of pine and grapefruit starts the palate. Grainy, husky malt follows through with a light bitterness.

Finishes with sweet malt, wet paper, and light tartness.

Infected beer and I'd like my money back please. Beyond that the base beer is subdued and stale.
I'll be done with Blue Hills.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into an Irish style pint glass. Clean looking beer. Translucent body with a nice sunset orange color. Nice head forms, and there was also a good amount of lacing on the glass. Smell was hoppy and had a slight smell of lemon. Taste was very good. Nice balance of hops, but I could definitely taste some of the malt here also. Mouthfeel was pleasant, but had a bit of sweetness that I could have done without. Would have liked to see this beer finish a bit more dry. Overall, this IPA was pretty enjoyable to drink. I found this version much better than the 12 oz bottle from a six pack. The bomber Pub Draft IPA is totally different in a good way.

Poured beer out of the growler into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a copper color with great clarity and bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Nice citrus hops followed by caramel and bready malts.

Taste: Grapefruit and orange flavors balanced by the caramel and bready malts. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth, drinkable, medium bodied, medium carbonation, and easy to drink.

Overall: A nice IPA that I look forward to drinking more of from the brewery. Such a drinkable and enjoyable IPA.

Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.

The color is a clear dark amber/gold with two or three fingers of foamy white head and some thick lacing.

The smell is a bit bitter with some spicy hop flavor coming out first in the nose. Upon further inspection there is some lemon flavor mixed with a slight boozy alcohol flavor.

The taste is bitter at first with the same bitterness that was there in the nose. Some sweet malt flavor is hidden behind a wall of bitter hop flavor. It's there and is detectable but is almost washed completely by the bitterness of the hops. As it warms up, and I get used to the bitterness, there is a nice still hop flavor that brings some earthy flavors and reminds me of autumn.

This beer has a good-sized body and it hits with a good-sized hop punch. There is a decent balance to this beer once the beer warms up. The malt is able to shine some and the bitterness lets go. It has a good drinkable feel and goes down well after the first bitter pop.

Poured only a 1/2" off-white head but it did last quite a while. Hazy apricot color bordering on copper. Smells of tart fruit. Taste is only mild to moderately hoppy but it has a decent richness and a malty aftertaste. So I find this to be a quality beer but not among the IPA elites.

Notes from brewery tasting.
A hazy yellow slightly darker but not quite an orange color. A decent head that dissipates to an even layer of lace. Nose is a caramel and biscuit malt body that has a nice kick of earthy citrus hops. The body here is great. A fine balance of a full bodied malt bill and some east coast hops. A caramel/biscuit body, just like the nose, with a great kick of citrus, slightly tropical fruit with a nice earthy character. A full bodied IPA with a lot of great subtle characteristics. This IPA isn't try to smack you with hops, which is a good thing.

Poured chilled into a pint glass, it pours a typical amber color with some slight haze along with a 1 finger thick bone white hea forming on top that dissipates to a thin surface layer while leaving SOME LACING on the glass.

Thinking I'm getting a bit of a cold, it's tough to get very much on the nose out of this one. However, from what I gather I can smell a bit of pine (cascade hops) along with a hint of grapefruit and maybe some orange peel. Somewhat weak, but it may have to do with my sinuses having "issues".

Sipping reveals a rather bitter hops flavor, while the pine on my nose is not really there on the sip. A slight grapefruity flavor or lemon rind flavor comes through as well. The swallow gives a somewhat "old english ale" flavor which is nice.

The body is nice in terms of drinkability. Very easy drinker, and the near-7% is hidden well, but nothing real flashy here. Would make an excellent session beer.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a nonic tumbler. Pours a pretty clear golden copper color with 2.5 fingers of creamy white head, good retention and nice lacing. Fine looking brew.

Smells pretty citric hoppy. Lemon in particular. A bit of pale malt. Nice but not exciting.

Tastes good- very drinkable. Malts are pretty evenly balanced with the hops (for an IPA). Pale malt sweetness washes over the palate first, followed by a round hop-tang. Get more lemon towards the end and finishes relatively dry.

Mouthfeel is very nice- medium light body with light to moderate carbonation. Goes down pretty easy and very refreshing. Not bad for 4.49. Not the best IPA but good enough to drink for sure.
