Malty side-tongue lingering. Unfiltered. Looks like a gross brownish red filthpit. Good strong double IPA hop scent.

This was absolutely undrinkable. I have never found myself dumping a whole 22oz beer down the sink before. This was awful. I wish I could get my $7 back. I also assume everything this place makes is for the "crowd" and equally tastes like trash. What is wrong with this place? Just throw in a shandy for the "crowd" along with one more IPA...there are too many people brewing with no quality. This makes me rethink what I am buying in the store when I try someone new. Absolutely disgusting beer this was

"Wow." The word that came to mind when I took my first sip. IPA seekers looking for the ultra hoppy experience most double IPAs deliver like me will have a similar reaction.

Not too bitter, though, but smooth. Sipping down a full 22oz Imperial at 8% you think would be overwhelming without a salty steak, but this Double I was able to enjoy standing on its own, probably a consequence of its unfiltered nature. Deep orange hue and citric notes.

I've gone out of my way to taste the many locally brewed double IPAs Boston offers, and this one fits into my top 5. If you're looking for super fresh beer, strong, hoppy, and drinkable, the Blue Hills Double IPA remains highly recommended. A standalone Double.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on October 11, 2014.

Medium amber pour with decent off-white head and a slight fogginess to it all.

Hops are what my nose picks up first along with an undercurrent of toasted malts, slight fruitiness, and sweetness. But nothing jumps out as dominating.

The body is medium to heavy.

This is meant to be a Double IPA so I expected bitter, pungent hops but I did not get that. Oh yes there are hops in the taste but I think their regular IPA has more hop bitterness than this one does. At least the 8% ABV is muted.

A: The beer is murky amber orange in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that hardly down and consistently left a thin head covering the surface along with lacing down the sides of the glass
S: The nose has flavors of biscuity and toffee malts along with notes of citrusy hops.
T: Initial flavors of biscuity malts are present in the nose, with hints of toffee and citrusy hops along with a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer might not appeal all hopheads, but it has a great balance between the malts and hops. It also hides its alcohol very well.

Pours a light amber/orange color with a decent sized head, majority of it fades quickly but there is a lasting thin cap, plenty of sticky lacing on the glass.

Smell has a strong caramel malt backing, mild piney hop presence shoved behind the sweetness.

Taste starts out with an earthy piney bitterness, caramel malt balances things out quickly, very rough around the edges, alcoholic strength mostly well hidden, medium-low carbonation with a decent creamy softness to it.

12 oz. can poured into a tulip.

Appearance: Pours a glowing orange-amber with a big white head. Fair amount of lacing, and pretty good carbonation.

Aroma: This beer has an earthy, hoppy, grapefruity aroma that is buoyed by some nice biscuit malt. There's also some buttered toast, lots of floral aroma, and herbaceous quality. Lots of grass and pine, too.

Taste: That grapefruit note is up front, as is pine and citrus. Nice malt balance, too.

Mouthfeel: Good balance. Dangerously drinkable for a somewhat high ABV beer.

Overall: Very solid 2XIPA. Love that it's presented in cans, too. Good stuff - nice flavors, good booze burn, easy on the palate for an 80 ABV beer. Find it, drink it.

I poured this bottle into a pint glass. Served cool.

This beer looks ruddy for a body almost rust colored and cloudy. The head is off-white.

The beer smells first like grass then tropical fruit some citrus and some pine. There's a faint grain smell as well.

There is a very nice complex back-and-forth action between sweet grain flavor and Fruit. The beer finishes with a very nice pine alcohol and fruit stone burn.

Medium to low carbonation

Overall this is a very nice double IPAA certainly something that is different from what is already out there on the market certainly worth a try and actually very drinkable
