Lasting one-finger head. Leaves plenty of chunky lace on the glass (a cross between webs and spots). The color is gold, leaning toward dirty gold, but there's a whitish haze from a bit of yeast.
Malty grain nose with a bit of creamed corn. Soft, but notable, aroma.
This is far more hopped than any other Kölsch I've ever had, leaving a long bitter aftertaste. The smell is true to style, but the flavor is biting, particularly in the swallow. The bitterness is simply that--bitter. There's no complexity to the flavor. The body and carbonation are good.
I'm disappointed as I love a truly well-made Kölsch.

Growler was poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: This beer poured a two finger head that reduced to a puffy head of foam and left some nice lacing on the glass. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and bubbles rising up through the glass. More lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.
Smell: Sweet and bready pilsner malts, grassy and lime hops, and some banana yeast characteristics.
Taste: Nice chewy malts, sweetness, a little banana, and grassy lime characteristics.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, chewy, medium carbonation, crisp, refreshing, and medium bodied.
Overall: Pretty solid imperial kolsch. All the traditional characteristics with a little alcohol than the norm. Great beer on a fall day up here in Old Orchard Beach.
