Great looking 750mL with a brick red label featuring Mjolnir, the Hammer of Thor. Awesome.
Beer poured a reddish copper colour with an orange copper glow around the edges when held to a lamp. An average pour yielded a very modest head; a thin haze of frost remains over the surface of the drink throughout.
Many nuances present in the smell. Alcohol, caramel, and an assortment of spices are most assertive and in that order. Honey and gingerbread cookies are there, as well, but lurk in the backgroung.
Dazzling sweetness launches a full-on frontal assault on the taste buds. Assertive, sugary madness and alcohol, every bit 10,1%, pillage the palate. Sweet malts, honey, caramel, and modest ginger are quite readily identifiable; sweet all the way through.
Mouthfeel is quite heavy indeed with a definite slickness to it; I hesitate to call it oily.
Considering the style and what this is, exactly, I'd say this is rather drinkable. However, with the formidable alcohol, and nearly obscene sweetness, this is certainly something to be enjoyed slowly and in moderation.

Found at Woodman's in Kenosha. (Wasn't that originally settled by Danes?)
Interesting. Subtle. Sweet, of course.
(While this was my 4th braggot, this one makes me question if my ratings for others are too high. This Tastes the real deal.)
What I don't understand is how they control the sweetness so it is just, merely, sweet. Mead is sweet. Honey is very sweet. Malt can get very sweet when mixed with other sweets. Yet, this is only dessert sweet. (Have it instead of dessert.)

But.... Don't be like me and question. Just enjoy.
One more bit of advice... Better to sip than drink this one.

I went on their website. They make much more mead than anything else (nine of them). Of their two beers, this appears to be the only one in the U.S. And then they have a few culinary offerings and advice from their rather isolated part of Denmark. So it seems, Dansk Mjod is about preserving regional culture. And that is what makes beer interesting, too.
So, I give them an OA hug.

Hazy brown colored ale with a small tan to off-white colored head.

Smells sweet and spicy with lots of apple and ginger scents. This smells distinctly like Apple Butter. Strong scent of cinnamon. Scent of heather and pollen. Distinctly smells sweet.

Starts out tasting much like it smells. Sweet with a lot of toasted grain flavor. Strong taste of apple, heather and flower pollen. Lots of brown sugar flavor. Very low on the bitterness scale. Alcohol can be tasted but it is enough to numb the end of your tongue and warm your chest and throat. Tastes strongly of ginger and cinnamon with a clear taste of honey. I can sum the flavor up as Damn Tasty.

Mouthfeel is good and on the thick side.

Overall this is a very tasty beverage. This is what Wassail tastes like from the Christmas song.

Appearance – One finger head on a clear, deep amber body, almost red.

Aroma – Sweet, fruity, cherries, some honey, slightly herbal.

Taste – Bready, slightly fruity, rather potent honey, moderately sweet, some herbal hoppiness and a hint of ginger.
Almost no bitterness, though.

Mouthfeel – A little thick and cloying, as if the honey’s viscosity hung around a bit.

Overall – Not bad, not my favorite braggot but a reasonable example of the style.

1 pint .9 fl oz brown glass bottle with unbranded silver hood-and-wire cap over a cork acquired at a local bottle shop and served into a Guinness stem-goblet glass in me parents’ gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado during my annual Christmas tasting. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average as I quite like the style. 10.1% ABV confirmed. 2013 vintage. Reviewed as a braggot because the label clearly identifies it as such.

Served cold – straight from the fridge - and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as it’s poured.

Pours a one finger wide head of white colour. Nice thickness and creaminess. Smooth consistency. Fairly soft complexion. Head retention is pretty nice - about 3-4 minutes.

Body colour is a semitranslucent quasitransaparent amber of average vibrance. No floating yeast particles are visible. Nice even lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes.

Overall, it’s an appealing appearance for the style. I’m looking forward to trying it.

Sm: Heavy honey. Some vague spice. Pale and amber malts. Maybe a bit of ginger.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through.

T: Heavy honey sweetness - it comes off rather raw. Sure, there's some malty backbone, but it can't hold a candle to the honey. Generic floral hop character. Some ginger, sure. Painfully simple for a braggot. Brings the mead, but not really the beer. Not real balanced.

Lacks complexity, intricacy, subtlety, and nuance. Average duration, intensity, and depth of flavour. Cohesive enough, but far from gestalt.

No yeast character comes through.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Nice thickness. Decent body. A biteen overcarbonated. Has a decent enough presence on the palate.

Not oily, astringent, harsh, or hot. It does have some alcohol warmth.

Suits the flavour profile generally well, but doesn't feel custom-tailored to it.

Dr: Downable and enjoyable, but far from a great braggot. I certainly wouldn't buy it again. It's passable but underwhelming. There's nothing remarkable about it. Ultimately, it's a bit too sweet.

Appearance- Pours up a slight bit of head that has no real retention. The head is pure cotton white while the body is very muddy and almost dark amber which shows as a hazy medium amber when held up to the light. There is no lacing.

Nose- Oh boy, this is going to be interesting. Aromas- whiskey, brandy, and mead. Yes, there's some alcohol here. Honey and white wine. Smells like cheap mead with some tequila notes. Bubblegum and honey. There were some cherry notes earlier. They become somewhat chocolate when smelled from the bottle. Caramel? Hints of cough syrup? None of these are negatives but if the palate follows the nose, it could be a problem. After some time, these nominally negative characteristics meld together to form a quite enjoyable aroma.

Taste- Initially, it seems more subdued than the nose. A huge dose of honey but it tastes real (not like some honey wines that try to pass for mead) and then not much else. I was expecting to walloped with sweetness and alcohol but that didn't happen. The nose is reflected but it is much more subdued. There is cherry and some brown sugar. Ginger shows up on the finish and helps to cleanse the palate so that this doesn't become too cloyingly sweet. As I drink it more and more, the ginger becomes more present and recalls ginger ale. It's not terribly complex but has a lot of balance. I'm enjoying this much more than I thought I would. I know some Beer Advocates eschew beer cocktails but I could see this working perfectly as a half and half with some real ginger ale or ginger beer. This seems to be a good representation of the style even though I might question whether this is a beer or not. Some notes of cinnamon start to appear. White grape is the obvious flavor note I have not mentioned.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and syrupy but with just enough carbonation to cut through both of those. The carbonation structurally defines the texture in a way that improves the braggot. Somewhat vinous- duh, it's mixed with honey wine.

Drinkability- While this is not as sweet as I expected, the sweetness still does give one pause. However, the ginger is essential in rendering this obstacle as surmountable. The alcohol is well hidden but this does not make this beer dangerous as its very nature prevents it from being chuggable. That and the price. Almost 16 bucks.

Overall- I liked it much more than I thought I would. The honey wine (or mead) used seems to be high quality. The ginger is essential for balance. If you can drink a Moscato, this will be no problem. This is sweet, this is a honey bomb, but it is manageable.
