Notes/Commercial Description:

Grainy sweet bready malt and light fruit. Decent beer but not my favorite style.

Poured a dark reddish brown body with an aroma that mixes light hops and is mostly a sweet malt smell.
More malty than hoppy with a noticeable profile consisting of caramel, toffee and some dark fruits and a breadlike presence that gives it a fuller body.
Dry, easy finish for a simple but well-crafted beer that will please your sweet tooth but has just enough balance to not tire you out.

11.2 oz Swing top brown bottle. No freshness date noticed.
Served in a tall cylinder glass.
It pours a brown mahogany with a bubbly beige head.
A toasted malty aroma leads off and is followed by a light smell of fresh cut oak, iron, citrus and grass.
The flavors are malt-forward. Tastes of molasses, wood, raisins, light rum and slight metallic tang, make for an interesting flavor profile.

Very fluid and gulpable!

Great swing top bottle!

Poured from a swing top bottle into a pilsner glass.

Appearance: pours a murky brown with a thick head that retains well. Leaves a small amount of lacing.

Smell: sweet on the nose. Dark grains. Plums and raisins. Bread. Honey. Maybe tea.

Taste: the star of the show is definitely the sweetness of the malt. Serious taste of bread. Almost like a doppelbock in terms of sweetness. Just when you think the sweetness is going to get clawing, the hops level it off. Leaves with a cleaner finish than you would expect from the nose and initial hit of grains.

Mouthfeel: very smooth and pretty clean. Drinks like the 6% beer that it is.

Overall: definitely something different. As far as altbier goes, Sticke is certainly out of the box. More like a doppelbock than a kolsch. Definitely worth trying if you are looking for something big and different but still balanced.

A murky, muddy brown with reddish hues around the edges and a nice little dash of tinged foam to top it off. From the side it looks more that muddy brown, while looking at it from the top down, oddly enough, is where the deep mahogany/reddish appearance makes its presence.

The nose is sweet, first and foremost with a touch of tartness riding right along, piggy back style. This is your old world sweet: raisins and figs and a woody earthiness. This beer just reminds me more and more of antique furniture. In a good way. Complex.

We begin our journey... nah, just kidding that's dumb. That same raisin sweetness is the first guest to jump in, followed up with those figs and then a surprising twist of dull earthy hops and what I think of as a pilsener type of finish. In between more of that mustiness. Dominated (as it should be by malts). Some caramel works its way in there and an almost pumpernickel breadiness. In addition to the hops there's some zest bordering on sourness, but it backs off before the light hits its face, leaving us with a lingering tartness, accentuated by an occasionally bright sparkling carbonation.

I honestly had no idea what to expect with this one. I picked it up on a whim, so my expectations were low/absent. What I came away with was a very intriguing brew: complex and musty and quite enjoyable. Very glad I stumbled across this one.

Bottle purchased from Nathaniel Square Corner Store. A really cool looking flip top bottle, very unique.

Pours a bronzed, rusty thick looking brown. 1 inch head, no real lacing.

Smells like toffee and caramel.

Tastes incredible. Strong malt flavors hit at every turn- sweet caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, biscuity malt, etc. The German hops impart a slight spiciness to the proceedings, very grassy, and a tiny bit floral.

Very crisp, dry mouthfeel. Medium bodied, well carbonated.

The best of this style that I've tried, though I have not tried many.
