Notes/Commercial Description:

This pours a muddy brown color with a slight beige head. The aroma is slightly malty but that’s about it. It has a very interesting malt flavor to it. There are hints of caramel as well as a little sourness. Lot of unique, hard to describe flavors to describe, but interesting never-the-less.

A: Poured from the (cool) swing-top bottle into a SA Perfect Pint glass. Color is a solid brown with large carbonation bubbles visible at the bottom of the beer ascending to what starts as a nice one-fingered head. The head slowly dissipates to a somewhat rocky-lacing type foam, a few big bubbles, most small.

S: Nose is notes of roasted malts, a slight breadiness, caramel sweetness and dark fruits. I'm picking up some notes of dates and maybe figs. A nice overall toasted quality.

T: Similar to the nose, those the caramel, malty flavors dominate with some nuttiness in the mix. A light amount of hops are present as well.I don't really pick up anything else that is particularly noticeable.

M: Very slick, almost oily, fairly viscous with a fair amount of carbonation that works quite well with the light hoppiness and maltiness. Alcohol is noticeable, but not particularly aggressive.

O: Delicious. I would get this again, quite tasty, enjoyable, and drinkable.

Classic flip top bottle served in a Dogfish Head IPA glass. Why not?

A - Dark ruddy brown with a small tan cap that slowly dissipates.

S - Sticky dark malts, raisins, dates, cooked caramel, dark bread, molasses, deep malt aroma, honey sweetness, really yeasty as it sets.

T - Follows the nose with big dark bread malt, sticky dates, nutty, burnt/charred fig bread, vanilla, spicy hops adds some peppery bitterness. Sweet and rich caramel, with a wheat cracker like dryness overtaking the sweetness. Grassy hops and dark bread crust create a dry rustic finish.

M - Rich feel, chewy body, carbonation is right on, dry spicy finish.

Awesome! Sweet and rich but with a sweeping dryness. Spicy hops really showed up to combat the deep dark bready malts. I loved the sweet nutty caramel malt seemed sweet but actually was not. Almost like tricking your brain. Great layering effects and a standout brew for sure.

I'll admit, of all the beers I have had over the years, traditional German altbiers are not my strong point. I tend to skew towards domestics, and altbiers are one of the few styles that do not seem to be prevalent in my area. So, in order to review this beer, I can't really compare it to other altbiers off the top of my head, but overall, Uerige Sticke stands it's ground as a solid ale! Unlike other brown ales, this altbier isn't overcome with molasses and caramel flavors, this has a more fruity flavor with a hint of smokiness. When poured, the head is lush, and when you take a sip, the suds stick to the liquid, giving a generous, aerated sipping quality that is quite refreshing. After you swish around the lovely flavor and swallow, the aftertaste maintains the essence of the beer itself, with no degradaton. A very tasty experience!

Bottle poured into a tulip
Bottled on 01.11, code 01.12, whatever that means.

A- Pours hazy dark amber. A bubbly one finger of a tan head.

S- A big grain on the nose, A bit of Munich and pilsner malt. A slight caramel and yeasty esters. A sour fruityness.

T- A bit of caramel at first. A frothy, foamy caramel flavor. A breddy, yeasty flavor as well. A bit of dark fruit to this beer, A fig and dry raisin. A bit of this beer actually reminds me of wine, a dry quality and an alcohol feel on the tongue. A slight lemon grass note, herbal oniony grass notes as well. A strange and complex beer.

M- Thick on feel for the ABV, higher in carbonation. A slightly strange alcohol feel in the aftertaste.

O- A very weird beer. Certainly different from what you expect from an altbier.
