Growler generously provided by Al. Thanks so much for this opportunity.

Pours a tepid root beer without much life.

Ah, some sweet bourbon brownie batter on the nose. Chocolate cake, light icing, and cookies....sweet bourbony goodness. Man this smells nice.

There's just an illusion of the greatness of the nose..a flash, a tease, before being overwhelmed by a massive booze laden punch of alcohol and nail polish remover. My god is the finish harsh and chemical tasting. Maybe this is the wheat wine? Whatever it is this is a major disappointment. All booze, some barrel, and did I mention the booze? Hot and unpleasant.

Ditch the wheatwine, keep using these barrels, and tweak this recipe....a few bones here but the overall skeleton is a fail.

Served on tap in a chalice glass

Appearance – The beer pours an almost pitch black color with a tiny tan colored head. The head has a light level of retention, fading fast to leave a tiny bit of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy caramel and molasses smell mixed with a whole lot of roasted malt. Along with these aromas are some smells of oak and bourbon A little bit of a cocoa and some wood smells round out the profile, creating a very warm, sweet and dark smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins tons of sweet flavors of a caramel and brown sugar nature mixed with a great deal of roasted malt and some lighter vanilla. The vanilla gains some intensity as the flavor advances with the sweetness of caramel and cocoa maintaining in strength. All the while some oaky and boozy bourbon flavors begin coming to the tongue getting stronger and stronger as the flavor advances. Some notes of coffee and a little bit of earth joins the flavor profile more toward the end of the taste, which mix with the roasted and now rather potent sweet, boozy, and bourbon flavors of the brew to create a nice sweet, dark, and warming flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both are fantastic for the big sweet, boozy, and oaky dark flavors of the brew making this a very nice slow sipping beer.

Overall – A rather big and thick imperial stout with a rather nice warming but still easy drinking bourbon boozy flavor. A rather tasty slow sipper I must say.
