Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.80%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Dirty Little Freak Coconut Caramel Chocolate Brown Ale, first brewed in 2014, takes the traditional American Brown Ale and gives it a sensual new twist – Coconut! This medium-bodied, 5.8% abv brown ale is a feast for the senses from its dominant blend of warm, roasted malt, coconut, caramel, and chocolate flavors barely restrained by a gentle hop bite, to its tantalizingly satisfying finish. But if you submit to our Dirty Little Freak, be warned: there is no safe word.

Brown ale with caramel (vanilla?), coconut, and chocolate. Poured from a bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery tulip. Dark, somewhat cloudy pour with a good 1.5 fingers of frothy tan head and average retention. I definitely get the coconut on the nose, but it isn't overpowering. I also get some toasted malt.

Medium body with a firm feel and an interesting flavor that brings different components to the table. Some toffee-like sweetness up front, a little coconut, then cocoa powder, some hops, and a cola-like finish.

I tried this beer on tap and liked it a lot more. It definitely loses something in the bottle. Either that, or the gas from the tap softens some of the flavors and adds richness to others. Either way, a nice take on what many feel is a dull style. The coconut flavor is well-integrated and not too strong or weak. A porter along these lines would be most welcome.

Found this at my local Beermuda mixed and matched for around 2 dollars. Into a pint glass.
A - Very nice deep brown color with a 1/2 inch of mocha head that sticks around for quite a bit. Really good looking medium body on this brown.
S - Very strong toasted coconut with chocolate malt tones. Not subtle in any way just in your face. Getting some underlining hazelnut smells from the brown ale as well. Sweet.
T - Pretty much like Kona's Koko Brown but much more robust toasted coconut and great chocolate malt tones. Finish is rather sweet with some hazelnut twang and some hops. Really loving it.
M - Light to medium somewhat chewy. Decent body.

Overall this is a winner what a great experimental brew. I had my doubts with this since most beers they make are rather lackluster but this may be the best beer I had from them to date. I have never experienced such robust coconut flavor in a beer so if thats your thing BUY THIS NOW!

Only my second Duclaw beer I have tried.Pours a russet brown with a creamy textured light beige head atop that leaves an almost full ring of lace as it settles into a frothy mass.Toasted coconut stands out in the nose along with mild milk chocolate.Although not a fan of coconut it's pleasant on the palate and goes well with the chocolate notes.Again not a fan of coconut so much but this is a pretty darn good beer.

From a 12oz bottle dated 8/14, poured into a tulip.
L- dark caramel. Nice rising bubbles that dissipate in about 30 seconds.
S- like a Mounds bar
T- like a Mounds bar
F- high carbonation is nice, especially given the heavy flavors.

Pours dark brown with a 1/4 inch head. Love the combination of coconut, chocolate, and caramel. This one is like drinking a beer version of Almond Joy. I could have several of these.

12 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.

Pours dark red-brown with a weak head that quickly reduces to a ring. There's some lacing nonetheless.

Aroma: dominated by coconut and caramel; some chocolate and brown sugar.

Flavor: As promised, this is a Coconut Caramel Chocolate Brown Ale with all of those components present and in good balance, although I would not be surprise if the level of coconut was too high for some. Enough hops to tame the sweetness and leave very faint herbal/spicy notes.

Feel: medium-bodied with near medium carbonation. A welcome dryness in the finish.

Overall: If "Coconut Caramel Chocolate Brown Ale" sounds good to you, you'll probably like this ale a lot.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, completely opaque, pitch-black color with an eighth of a finger of off-white head that completely dissolved away into no head what-so-ever.

Aroma: Interesting aromas of roasted malt, imparting notes of toasted dark bread, followed by some aromas of toasted coconut, dry-roasted peanuts, a touch of vanilla and brown sugar. Very earthy and enticing.

Taste: Very nice flavors of toasted malt and coconut up front, followed by some molasses and brown sugar-like sweetness, finished by some nicely balanced hops. Quite interesting and quite good.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and pretty smooth, as there is no carbonation to speak of, what-so-ever. With an ABV of 5.8%, there is no alcohol present on the palate.

Overall: A very interesting and quite good beer. I like the earthy aromas and flavors. I’d certainly get it again.
