First brewed in 1996 as part of our original line-up, and still available as part of our fall/winter variety pack, Bad Moon Porter is is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head and full-bodied with a creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Bad Moon’s lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by hints of chocolate and espresso, and precisely balanced by a subtle hop presence and moderate 5.1% ABV that foreshadow its smooth, dry, roasty finish.

The beer poured a rich black with a fine tan head. The aroma was of toasted malt with no evidence of hops. The taste was of toasted malt, but not overly sweet a pretty standard stout. The feel was appropriately medium and dry. This was a decent, but not outstanding stout.

Draught pint at DuClaw "The Mills". Hard to believe I haven't rated/reviewed this before. I've had many porters since - and many better - but this remains a resepectable example of the type.

Good dark color, but the head dissipated quickly. A bit of good lacing on the glass though. Good strong malty smell typical of a porter. A bit of coffee and chocolate on the tongue, but what stands out the most is the smoky flavor. It's almost overpowering. Not TOO BAD, but I've had much better porters.

This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing roaming all around the glass. The smell had a roasty robust black coffee with a sharp bitter hoppiness (slight earthy pine). The taste was mainly sharp roasty robust toasty and dark coffee, light chocolate does enter in a bit at the end. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there but nothing overbearing. It carried a nice sharp bitter roasty coffee rolling over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good porter that I would have again.

On tap at Bel Air location. More roast grain essence in this vice the Sweet Baby J. Semi sweet chocolate and coffee, creamy mouth feel, mild bitter finish.
