For fans of Australian-style lagers, Kangaroo Love (enjoyed on-tap at the Arundel Mills Du Claw location) is an automatic "Yes!" But I recently shared a Growler of the stuff at a party with a group of folks with a wide range of beer tastes--from macro to micro, light to stout, domestic to import. To a person, all thought KL was marvelous and asked where to find it.

I think the appeal is because, while KL shares some of the distinctively crisp/fruity aroma and flavor of the more familiar Australian macros like (sorry for the comparison) Fosters, it is also much milder, smoother, and somewhat less carbonated--making for a thoroughly wonderful beer you never grow tired of.

All Du Claw products are phenomenal for their range of flavors and their drinkability. It's no wonder this is one of the "regulars" on tap--and one of the first I ask for.

Presented as a pale yellow beer with nice white puffy head. Smell is of a nice sweet maltiness that promises a great taste. The taste if not dissapointing, with a firm sweet maltiness showing through. Mouthfeekl is swett, but not overly so, with a nice clean refreshing taste. A great summer brew.

Let me point out that I'm reviewing for style. This is my least favorite of the DuClaw brews, but they actually do the style better than what they are trying to clone. This is their version of Foster's (they even call it an Australian lager) and it is the beer left on the tap lines for all those macro lovers who won't find any macros on tap at DuClaw. The macro-loving ladies in our group swear by the stuff. Sampled on tap at the Fells location from other folk's pint glasses.

Pours a bright yellow hinted with amber. Generally poured with half a finger of white foam. It disappears to a clingy ring that leaves some very nice lacing.

Smells of sweet malt intermingled with sulphur

Complex in that there are a good amount of malts mixed in with a little bit of hops and a little bit of sulphur. I think they use a little bit of wheat to add some oomph in there. Light, crisp brew that has the right amount of carbonation. It is light on the mouthfeel and also finishes clean, which adds to its drinkability on a hot summer day.

Draft at DuClaw Bowie.

Pours clear straw, thin white fizzy head that settles into a thin ring.

Nose is light, some floral hops and pale malt poke out, but not a lot.

Taste is biscuity pale malt, very light but noticeable hop crispness and a lingering biscuity malt note on the finish.

Mouthfeel is light, crisply carbonated, not too coarse. Refreshing.

Drinkability is really high - this beer has some nice substance to it, but also has some pretty crazy drinkability. Flavorful and refreshing while not at all overbearing. The perfect beer for drinking when you just want to drink it and don't want to think about it. A fine example that goes far towards redeeming a generally underwhelming style.

Tasted at the Alchemy Release Party at the Arundel Mills Location on 5/19/05.

Light yellow golden color with a low ring for the head. Balanced malt grain aroma and flavor with a touch of adjunct character. No hop character stands out. Light bodied, clean, refreshing, and very drinkable.

Not bad for a beginners brewpub beer and much better than their kolsch ever was.

The Kangaroo Love delivers a clear, light-amber colored body that's capped by a small, rocky head of white foam. Its standard-sized bubbled head holds well after the initial pour, but drops shortly once the tasting begins and leaves only minor spotty lace... all of which is better that the Foster's lager that it's trying to emulate! The aroma is of a lightly honeyish malt with a mild, background sulphur from the lager yeast that lends it a touch of authenticity. The body is medium/light with a very fine and lively carbonation that leaves it's crisp in the mouth. It's quite clean all-around, and the flavor delivers an appropriate touch of lager-like sulphur amidst a light malt with some delicate honey-ish character. Mild, background hop flavors try to peek through but never really make it; and it's very well-balanced with a bent towards the crisp and dry (as it should be). It finishes short, crisp and clean with a light touch of hop bitterness and a touch of drying sulphuric acidity. Very nicely done! It's quite refreshing during the hot summer months without delivering the palate bludgeoning bitterness of a stronger IPA. Crisp and clean! Refreshing and drinkable!

Had this at their Bowie, MD. location. This was served as part of their beer sampler. This was very clear and bright pale straw in color. A crisp, light and flavorful beer. Maybe a step or two above your average light lager beer. Actually, this seemed to be perfect beer for the outdoor table we were sitting at. Sunny and warm, while this beer was crisp and cold. As for the aroma - there’s some lemony fresh grains that come through. Surely a session beer, and a refreshing one, too.

I believe the ABV was somewhere around 4.5%-5%. It is an Australian lager. It poured a hazy light golden color. The smell was pretty average. Lots of bread and malt. The taste was very good. Lots of malts upfront then hops then a very creamy finish. Little spicy at the very end. Mouthfeel was nice and clean and crisp. Could definitely have lots of these babies.

Pours bright straw yellow with plenty of clarity. A thick white head slowly descends to a thin cap, and eventually a wisp. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of some sweet grain with a hint of mild floral notes.

The taste is of sweet grain and honey with vague floral notes. Slightly soapy. Crisp finish.

Light-bodied, smooth, crisp and refreshing. Clean. A fine brew for what it is - will appeal well enough to the "masses" while having enough taste to be an easy-drinker for the craft beer drinkers.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours yellow that is quite clear with visible carbonation bubbles and a white head. The nose is light grain and some mild sweetness. There is a bit of sugar in the taste with grain and straw. Very light body with good carbonation. Drinks fairly well and is easy to put down.

On tap at the Fells Point location. This beer is an American version of Fosters.

Appearance: clear yellow in color with a 1/2" head that disappears immediately. No lacing develops. Nice carbonation levels.

Smell: little grassy aroma, little else.

Taste: pretty decent for a Foster's knock-off. Grainy malt, soft bitterness, grass, and a hint of fruit sweetness make up a rather dull be easily quaffable beer.

Mouthfeel: very crisp from start to finish. Clean and refreshing. Light in body.

Drinkability: very easy at a mere 4.5% alcohol. Personally I don't enjoy the style but this was easy to drink but very boring.

Consumed at the Bowie location on 8/29/09- from notes.

Served in a shaker glass.

A- Very clear golden yellow, carbination was very evident. Topped off by a one finger bubbly white head that faded pretty quick. Not much in the way of lacing.

S- Biscuity malt and kind of grainy.

T- Sweet grain, very light floral notes. Kind of reminded me of Fosters or Tooheys New.

M- Light, a little too carbinated for me.

D- I would take this over a B/M/C but thats not saying much. Wont be trying this one again.
