look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Pours black, short light tan head, little lacing

Smell: Coffee, chocolate, hints of roasted malts

Taste: Coffee up front, then some chocolate. Some roasted malts and earthy hops. Finishes a little sweet, but not getting any raspberry flavor

Mouthfeel: True to the labeling it is a nice medium body. Low carbonation

Overall: Decent if it was advertised as a coffee chocolate stout, but a major disappointment due to the lack of raspberry flavor

This was a pretty respectable try by DuClaw on a flavored stout. It had a pleasant candyish quality about it, with the chocolate and raspberry flavors pretty much neck and neck. I would say this beer would even be good for someone who is "afraid" of dark beers, thinking that they will be too powerful or overwhelming. This beer is under control and easy drinking. Not too sweet, either, which was nice. A very pleasant, above-average offering from DuClaw.

I had this on tap at Fells Point in Baltimore MD.

App: Black upfront with little to no head, as the beer was finished the rudy hues came through with the light behind the glass.

Smell: Great smell, roasted malt flavors coupled with the light raspberry smell coming through the back. Very enviting to the sences begging for a taste.

Taste: Great taste of a stout with a slightly sweet and tarty raspberry taste. The roasting of the malts sets up the palate with a dry anc crispness that a stout is known for. As the beer warmed up the raspberry flavors closed in on the dry taste and cleasned the palate with a sweet flavor.

Mouthfeel: Great thickness; fully coating the mouth with great flavors. The tickness of the beer is not too much as to leave the stomach full.

Drinkability: This is a highly drinkable scession beer. Dry and crisp but then backed up with a sweet flavor of raspberry. The mouth is great and just thick enough. Great beer.

It's almost black body reveals clear glints of ruby-tinted mahogany beneath a creamy head of tan foam that fades shortly to just a thin collar. Lightly tart and sweet raspberry is noticeable in the nose over a dark malt background. The body is medium and its fine carbonation leaves it lightly crisp and tingly on the tongue. The flavor again delivers raspberry, impeccably balanced against dark chocolate and a subtle roastiness. Hop bitterness is present but does no more than balance the malt and fruit. A raspberry sweetness appears and then fades at the swallow; replaced by dark chocolate and then some short lingering dryness. Very drinkable. Very well done. Nicely balanced.

Thinnish tan head, opaque brown body with garnet highlights. A bit of lace.

Nose has a lot of dry malt and some cocoa.

Taste is a bunch of raspberry and chocolate. It seriously tastes like a raspberry chocolate and for the low abv, there's plenty of flavor. Not especially bitter, and pretty well balanced. You'd think 'watery' with the light flavor profile, but it's really not. Faint trace of coffee.

Mouthfeel is thinnish for a 'stout,' but no real complaints.

Pretty darn good. Nice lightish, but very pleasant flavor profile. And at the low ABV, quite sessionable in terms of fruit stouts. Price point might get in the way.

On tap at the Fell's Point location during the recent release.

Pours a dark brown with garnet highlights around the edges with an off-white/tan head that left some minimal lacing. The aroma is mmm, mmm, good. Chocolate, roasted malt, and of course, some subtle raspberry notes.

The taste is once again, as advertised. The bulk of the taste profile is deep chocolate sweetness and roasted/burnt malts but that lovely raspberry character rears it's head in the backend and finishes things on a most pleasant note. The mouthfeel is light medium bodied with a lively carbonation that pops in the mouth.

There isn't too much else to say about this perennial February release from DuClaw as it gives you exactly what they advertise. A nice marriage of chocolate & raspberries in one easy drinking Stout package. Not the biggest or best but definitely one nicely flavored Winter brew.

A really yummy beer I finished my sandwich with tonight. The beer is a rich dark color impossible to see through with a thin white lacing on top. The smell was very chocolatelty. The chocolate and raspberries were very noticeable. The beer is exceptionally smooth. I could have drank another had I not been stuffed.

From my growler I brought home. Pours a deep dark brown with ruby highlights when held in the light. Small tan head. Aroma is roasty chocolate, coffee, and raspberries. Taste is sweet raspberries, chocolate and slight bitter coffee metallic finish. It has a moderate finish. Creamy mouthfeel, could benefit from not being so thin though. I really enjoy this beer. Interesting take on the style but this definitely tasted better directly at DuClaw.

Had on tap at DuClaw...

A- Came to me a brown color when held to the light showed some amber hues on the edges. One finger light tan head shows good retention. Spotty lacing on the sides of the glass when drinking.

S- Aroma is pretty simple. Light roasted malts in the front of the nose. There is a distinct raspberry aroma that comes though lightly tart but very nice. Hints of roast in the ending bring this full circle.

T- Roasted malts in the front just like the nose. This comes with a light chocolate flavor right after the roast. Middle of the beer is where raspberry takes off. There is some light tartness to the raspberry but tastes a little artifical. Chocolate does come back in the ending with hints of light alcohol. Raspberry once again comes in the very end filling up the final flavor.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. A little light and watery in the mouth at times. Palate has raspberry and light chocolate tones. Aftertaste is light alcohol, raspberry, and hints of chocolate and roast. Flavors were balanced between the raspberry and roasted chocolate. No off flavors per say just a little watery at times. Light alcohol drying on the palate.

D- Once again this beer is a little on the light side. This really makes the beer drinkable and finishing this one is no problem at all. The ABV is not really an issue with this one as the alcohol never shows much at all. Overall a nice simple drinking beer that has a light chocolate covered raspberry feel to it.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of chocolate, a bit of coffee and raspberry. Taste is coffee, smoke, mild raspberry, not much chocolate. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall smokier than I thought, and less sweet, a quality beer.

Pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is very mild with dark roasted malt and fruity notes. Taste is sweet dark malt, mild coffee and chocolate with a bit of artificial raspberry flavor. Palate is medium body with good carbonation, slightly dry astringent. The finish is same as taste with some lingering roasted malt coffee and mild raspberry flavor mild bitterness. Was expecting a bit more substance from this brew, improves as it warms up a bit. Overall an ok brew nothing stand out.
