A: deep brown with ruby red tint

S: smells fruity and citrus,

T: nice light pumpkin taste, has a little bit of a bite at the end

M: coats your palate well and has a nice crisp tingly feeling

O: Overall I think this a great fall time beer. I usually am not a big pumpkin fan with beer but this one is the perfect pumpkin beer for me. It is not overwhelming and still has that nice beer taste as opposed to a strong pumpkin pie taste.

So many bottles! Where do/did they all come from? I am in Chez Woody's kitchen, listening to the Pirates/Cardinals game on TV and attempting to reduce some of the bottle backlog at the same time.

From the bottle: "This medium-bodied, amber German-style Lager combines frighteningly smooth malt flavor with a haunting, spicy finish of cinnamon and nutmeg, for a scary good brew that is definitely ... all treat, no trick"; "Respect_the_Fluid".

I do not feel at all guilty about drinking this since Southern Tier incredibly just released their PumKing! In early-July! On the subject of last Hallowe'en - I dressed as a CAN of Old Milwaukee, purchased two sixes of tallboys of OM from my neighbor and sat on my porch with one of the denizens of the neighborhood and gave out beer to the adults and CANdy to the kids. I anxiously await this year's celebration!

This one had a good bit of inherent carbonation so I could not pour it as quickly as I would like, but I still got a pseudo-cascade, resulting in three fingers of foamy, tawny head with moderate retention. Color was a deep, coppery-amber (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had the characteristic "pumpkin spice" smell of at least cinnamon and allspice. Mouthfeel was medium and the spiciness was immediately evident on the tongue, especially cinnamon. Strangely enough, the taste put me more in mind of apple pie. I don't mean this as good or bad, just different. Actually, given the plethora of pumpkin beers that I ran through last year, this would make for a nice change of pace, especially since it has a lager as its base. The spices made the finish fairly dry, but pleasantly so, not gasping. I would put this one forth as an alternative to all of the pumpkin ales, if nothing else.

A- a thin 1 finger head, dissolves quickly. a dark orange amber color with no real lacing. The head really does disappear because after about 60 seconds its just as clear from the top of the glass looking down as from the side looking through.

S- the smell of this is noticeable from a distance proving it is strong enough. Hints of pumpkin wafting across the table. As you get in deeper you start to notice the malt and the spice. Oddly enough this has a dark distinct note to it that I recognize from other DuClaw beers. It's a complexity that seems to stand out from their brews.

T- A malty sweet flavor with a smooth roasted finish. Mellow spices. Nothing staggering. The pumpkin is there mixing in with the malt.

M- It's a medium body with a easy drinking feel. It has a good balance to it. Just right in my opinion.

O- It's a middle of the road beer for me. Nothing that blows my socks off but it has a good flavor and is easy to drink. Kind of a winding down the season beer. After tasting at least half a dozen pumpkin and fall beers it fits just right for a tired palate.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a lighter copper-brown color with four fingers of white head which slowly dissolved into a finger of foam that covered the entire top of the beer. Jesus, there’s a lot of head to this beer! Also, the color of the beer is a little surprising, as it’s much lighter than I was expecting, considering it’s called a dunkel. The beer looks more like a Belgian brune or abbey ale, rather than a dunkel lager.

Aroma: Very complex. Lots of malt, lots of spice, and lots of floral hops too. Nicely balanced, but very complex. Fresh bread, spices of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, all-spice, honey and clover. Very pleasing.

Taste: Again, the taste is much more like a Belgian ale than a Munich-style dunkel lager. Malty upfront, with tons of spice: clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin, all-spice and honey, all nicely balanced with some hoppy bitterness. Excellent beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium, with a ton of carbonation that doesn’t really tickle the taste buds, but rather slaps the crap out of them. With an ABV of 5.8%, there’s no alcohol presence on the palate.

Overall: Damn, this is a good beer. No, this is a great beer. I love how complex the flavor profile it is, how nicely balanced between malt, and spice and hops it is. I’m always going to have some of this on hand.

This beer has a dark rich mahogany color body with very little head. The smell has a light aroma of cinnamon and some some malt. The taste is not over powering of any spice just very well balanced between the cinnamon and nutmeg. It also has a nice malt back bone to it. Mouthfeel is nice and overall it is good but not great. I didn't get any pumpkin from it
