Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. The bottle opens with a small fizz and I pour it into the glass. There are strong hop notes right from the pour with pine sap and some grapefruit rind.
The color is a rich chestnut color with some small particles suspended in the beer there are streams of bubbles rising to the surface throughout the sampling. The head is 1 cm and eggshell white after the pour and fades to a sturdy edge layer soon after the pour. After each sip there is tight lattice on the glass.
First sip reveals an average body and very fine carbonation. Mostly light and easy to drink texture.
Flavor is some toffee and a bit of caramel, but also gives good hearty hop presence with some citrus and a bit of an earthy presence. I also get a little bit of peppery booze, but no accompanying warmth.
OVerall this beer is pretty easy to drink, complex and interesting and not flawed anywhere.
I am enjoying this and would call it more of a double IPA or maybe barleywine, but it is what it is, a solid beer worth drinking.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a golden amber color with a billowy white head of one finger height. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is biggest of a citrus sweet smell with it being a mix of tangerine and orange as well as containing some other sweet smells of caramel. A little bit of bread as well as some hops of a grapefruit, herbal, and floral hop smell mingle with the rest of the smells.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather malty and bready taste with a good showing of a sweeter caramel and toffee flavor. As the taste advances, some hop flavors of grapefruit greet the tongue, starting out rather light, but gaining strength as the taste advances. With the increase in the grapefruit hop comes some flavors of a floral and earthy nature with the flavors drying out some as the bready transition to a slightly more cracker nature and some of the sweeter caramel fades. In the end, with the transitions of flavors that occurs throughout the taste, one is left with a semi-sweet and rather malty, moderately hopped (for an IPA of 7.5 %) flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel- The beer was on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that was on the lower side. The lower carbonation and thicker body really accentuated the sweeter and maltier flavors of the brew allowing them to really stand out, but did very little for the lighter to moderate hop flavors overall. Overall the feel was just OK.

Overall – An aright IPA; with it being very easy drinking and smooth, but not really delivering a great hop hit. Just OK overall.

12 oz.

Pours a hazy orange color with a sudsy white head, good retention.

Smells of light citrus and biscuit malt with some earthy piney hops.

Tastes of biscuit malt and the aforementioned earthy pine hops. Some floral to citrus zing in the finish and not overly bitter.

Medium body with a stinging carbonation.

A nice refreshing ale with some good flavor and nice body. For the strength, it could stand to have a little more oomph to it. I'm actually surprised by how subdued the aroma is. That gripe aside, it's actually very good and worth trying.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Light amber body. Nice white head. Medium collar.

Smell - Pungent hop smell. Kinda herbal. Kinda spicy. Lots of caramel sweetness.

Taste - Kinda tastes like crystal hops. Sweet caramel malt. Lightly spicy. A bit herbal.

Mouthfeel - Too sweet. Medium carbonation. A little heavy.

Overall - It's an interesting hop, but otherwise boring.
