12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Pours a clear copper, with a finger of foamy white head. This maintains some richness on the edges with a decent ½ finger flare-up that leaves back some patchy lacing on the sides. The chamomile stands right out in the aroma, backed by flowery notes, sticky smelling fruit and malt character, and some underlying spiciness. This overall has a ripe and zesty feel to it in the nose.

The taste is fruity and spicy with a flowery character from that chamomile. Underlying malts have more of a crisp sweetness (feels like a wheat base) to them that lead into a dry finish with more lingering spice. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a lively carbonation on the tongue and then more of a crisp creaminess that fills out the corners of the mouth. Decent, drinkable feel here.

This wasn’t bad and the flavors definitely came together more as this warmed but I just wish that DuClaw would steer away a bit from some of these gimmicky beers that they put out and brew some more standard styles that stand on their own two feet. Unfortunately, this one didn’t leave a whole lot of an impression on me.

A different beer, nothing like I expected from the beligian description. Color was a dirty blond color with a thin white head. Smell was a bit like flowers. Taste was a blend of spices, nutmeg prominent and the chamomile was strong as the finish. It was a very lite mouth feel. Overall it isn't my favorite spiced beer but it wasn't terrible.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a caramel color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some spices. Taste is quite spicy, ginger coming through the most, a touch of fruits. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a unique and enjoyable beer.

A - Two plus finger's worth of moderately chunky active and fizzy off white colored head that quickly recedes by half before displaying moderate retention before giving way to a full slightly frothy head... Loaded with medium bubbled quickly paced carbonation rising throughout with a couple of sluggish bubbles mixed within... The color is a slightly pale amber...

S - The spice components are at the forefront... The predominant spice is chamomile... The Belgian yeast lies a bit beneath the surface... Perhaps a bit of honey... Some light fruity notes as well... Quite pleasant, mellow and somewhat soothing...

T - A mirror image of the nose... The only difference is that some additional spice components emerge... The Belgian yeast, honey and light fruit notes compliment one another rather well... There may be a bit of orange zest mixed in as well... Not too shabby...

M - Medium bodied... Sharp carbonation on the tongue and a brisk carbonated presence throughout... Finishes with just a touch of dryness... A bit too fizzy...

D - An interesting offering from DuClaw... There is plenty going on here to keep a BA interested, but not necessarily something that I would seek out nor recommend, though I wouldn't shy away from in the future...

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, but also had previously on draft at DuClaw's in Arundel Mills, MD

A: strong golden color, very little head to speak of it, lacing goes away quickly
S: spices - cardamom, cloves - are definitely present but not overwhelming. Very nice overall.
T: a lot of things going on that work together well - honey, hint of orange, cardamom, spices, some floral and hops scents. Very refreshing.
M: good body, not cloying at all, carbonation very good for the type of beer
O: Excellent summer/fall beer - worth having again for sure.

Pours a orange color with a thumb sized off white head that doesn't last long.

Aroma is honey malts with loads of spice lots of ginger and Belgian yeast notes.

Taste is like the aroma malt is light not as sweet as the smell. But spice is there and big can say its true to style as lots of spice. taste is eh kind of not my cup of tea not that it is bad.

Mouthfeel is light side of medium with nice peppy or say more tingle like carbonation.

Overall say a good spice beer just not something I would enjoy regularly.

Not sure why it's listed as 4.8% mine is labeled "5%"

A - Looks like a Belgium ale a touch light with a clear amber body and a thin white head.

S - Smell is kind of underwhelming since I don't get any spices just herbal teas, mild hops and some caramel malts.

T - Well it's in no way terrible like the toffee nut brown ale, but pretty disappointing. Lackluster fruity yeasts and a mild hop presence keeps me drinking even beyond it warming to see if it gets any sort of spice. As others stated if I had to reach it would be for a mild bit of pepper in the taste.

M - Light to medium easy to put back but boring.

Overall just another creative name attached to a lackluster beer. Man I can't believe I paid 3 bucks for some of these singles...

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a golden color with a white head. The nose brings forward some floral character and a bit of light spicing. The taste is pretty generic with some floral character and a bit of pepper and spice. The feel is a bit of spice as well. Not overspiced, but nothing really come together in the end.

Once more, my local, in-person trader, tone77 has provided me with a beer that I might have otherwise glossed over. Cool!

From the bottle: "A mystical blend of chamomile, grains of Paradise, cardamom, and fruit flavors from Belgian yeast, this Belgian-style spiced ale is a mystery, and a bottle, you'll never want to get to the bottom of. Have a sip and ... transcend ordinary."; "Respect the Fluid"; "Belgian-style spiced ale"; "Ale brewed with spices".

My pour initially resulted in a fizzy finger of tawny head, but with limited retention. Color was a beautiful deep-amber with NE-plus quality clarity, allowing me to see into the future. It looks like rain, darn it! The nose reminded me of potpourri, a bit too much like perfume. It was certainly spicy, but there just seemed to be too many things going on in it. Mouthfeel was medium and the initial taste was honey-like, followed by a melange of spices, but my palate was not refined enough to discern one from another. Finish was dry, thanks to all of the spices as well as their interaction with the yeast. It was interesting, but just not my cup of tea.
