22 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass
Appearance: Pours a gorgeous, clear copper/amber with a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a thick halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass.
Aroma: Actually not much in the aroma, either that or I’m congested. I get some malt, maybe some caramel, and some alcohol, but not much else
Taste: Wow! What’s lacking in aroma is more than made up for in the taste! It’s very boozy up front, which makes sense, being a barley wine aged in bourbon barrels, but once the alcohol fades, I get malty notes of bread and cereal, followed by some sweet notes of vanilla, caramel. The beer finishes with some more alcohol and slight hints of earthy bourbon. Outstanding!!
Mouthfeel: Very chewy, with some very little carbonation. With an ABV of 10.6%, there’s quite a pronounced and enjoyable level of alcohol on the palate.
Overall: This is an excellent barley wine!! I really like the pronounced malty presence, mixed with the boozy alcohol. I just wish it had more of an aroma. Regardless, I’m definitely getting some more of this!!
