Double naked fish pours a black color with a small and stale head. There is strong chocolate raspberry bar aroma. The taste has a strong candy bar taste, lots of raspberries, and then finishes with chocolate. A tad watery, but good body. Overall its a decent sweet candy like beer.

a: pitch black body. two inches of mocha colored head settles to a ring leaving some nice lacing behind.

s: chocolate, coffee and raspberries.

t: bitter and sweet. dark chocolate with old cold bitter coffee and some raspberry syrup.

m: thinner that it should be, good carbonation.

o: i have a huge sweet tooth and enjoy huge chocolate stouts all the time. this one however is just too one sided on the sweetness. it really needs something to help balance it out.

Appearance: Pours a bit thinner than expected. Dark brown with some lighter highlights when held to direct light. Head is small, loose, bubbly, and drops to a wispy cap and loose collar in short order. A bit more carbonation than anticipated.

Smell: Loads of chocolate. Cocoa dusted chocolate bars. Straight up nib bitterness. Some sweet and tart raspberry plays in the back. Milk and dark chocolate. Chocolate malts. Did I mention chocolate? Some burnt edges. Deeply roasted. A bit of cardboard underneath. Vaguely metallic.

Taste: Roasted malts, old coffee, and more cocoa than the beer knows what to do with. Bitter cocoa nibs, baker's chocolate, so much dark chocolate. Feels like taking a huge bite of 85-90% dark chocolate and following it with half a tart raspberry. Some mild fruit undertones round out the back. Where's my raspberry? Roasted chocolate malts...some sweetness.

Mouthfeel: A bit thin overall. Carbonation runs a tad high. Slightly dirty finish, but not abrasive.

Overall: A beer full of lies!

Not a bad beer, but not the dessertish beer the bottle seemed to promise me. I was expected a slightly boozy chocolate covered raspberry, but was treated to a roasted cocoa and dark chocolate beer. Still, it's drinkable and not a total bust.

A - Two fingers worth of late to develop light brown colored head that is densly packed and has a bit of rocky top to it... Solid retention... The color is a flat dull black... There is a good bit of moderate paced carbonation which can be seen in the top half of the glass... Leaves a slight sticky film on the glass along with a tiny bit of lacing...

S - The aroma is one of a delectable booze soaked chocolate covered raspberry... Perhaps some very faint lightly roasted malts... Not much else, but in this case you don't need anything else... Rather unique and very inviting...

T - The nose was a good indicator of what materializes on the palate... Slightly artificial raspberry... A mix of milk and dark chocolates... A hint of roasted malts... A bit boozy... There is the addition of a very light hop presence as well...

M - Medium bodied... A bit gritty and chalky throughout... The carbonation is a bit dull... The finish is an odd mix of dryness and slight saliva producing goodness...

D - DuClaw is a brewery that I've come to respect greatly in recent year and its in large part to there creativity and solid execution... Double Naked Fish is no exception to that... Great name... Stellar aroma... While this isn't a world class offering, DuClaw is able to take an abstract and aggressive flavor profile and translate it into solid offering that I rather enjoyed...

22oz bottle served at my current cellar temperature of 50* into a 10oz snifter. No date or batch code present on the bottle. The glass manufacturing year is '11.

A: Pours just like a cola with a fast dissipating mocha head. Dark, but not black. Light and objects are clearly visible at the edges. A small, but persistent ring of lacing clings to the glass.

S: Roasted coffee and bitter chocolate abound. The raspberry is only discernible as a slightly fruity and metallic smell in the background.

T: Slightly ashy chocolate with a metallic finish. No real raspberry can be detected. A lot of bitter chocolate on the finish, somewhat unpleasant.

M: Very thin, almost watery. Carbonation is just shy of non-existent. It leaves an odd slickness behind.

O: No very impressive, I'm unsure of the age of the bottle. I'd try it again if it was put in front of me, but would not grab one if I saw it.

Poured a deep dark brown with a one finger light mocha head that faded into a tick ring with spotty lacing.

Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate with hints of raspberry.

Taste followed the nose with dark bitter chocolate, roasted malts followed by a sweet perfuming raspberry. As the beer came to room temperature the raspberry sweetness was not as sharrp and the beer was more balanced.

Mouth Feel was medium body leaning light body with moderate carbonation. Creamy, slightly smooth, the raspberries were a little too sweet until the beer warmed letting the roasted malts and chocolate bring some balance.

Overall not my favorite stout with fruit, a thicker body would help to make this a better beer.

S: Chocolates filled with raspberries, touch of roast, sweet smelling, some coffee

L: Dark black, light tan creamy head that dissipates.

T: Raspberry up front before chocolate overwhelming. Low bitterness with a pleasant coffee like roastiness in the finish. Fairly sweet throughout, but not cloying. Raspberry chocolate really shines. Finishes semi-sweet, with some residual light coffee roast.

M: Medium bodied, not too thick. Medium low carbonation.

A nice, light desert beer. Not too sweet or overwhelming. All the fruit and chocolate flavors played off each other nicely.

on tap at perch pub

Pours an opaque blackness with a slick layer of tanned head resting on top. Nice retention with patchy lacing on the glass.

Definitely comes across as advertised in the nose - cocoa powder, semisweet chocolate and raspberries. Hints of truffle and caramel with roasted dark malts. Light alcohol warmth.

Thick and sweet up front with plenty of chocolate and raspberries. Dark fruit sweetness with molasses and cocoa - similar to a chocolate covered raspberry. Roasted dark malts with caramel sweetness and continuing raspberry fruit. Finishes a bit warm and rich.

Fuller medium body, well carbonated, sticky and full on the tongue. This was pretty tasty but the raspberries became a little cloying after a bit.
