First brewed in 2011, this chocolate peanut butter porter is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.5% abv. Sweet Baby Jesus finishes smooth, dry, and roasty with lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter so savory, you will exclaim its name!

Black body, medium caramel colored head. Very roasty and surprisingly smoky. Good amount of peanut butter but it takes a backseat to the malts. Somewhat salty anise or salmiak sort of character here as well. It's got a decent feel, nicely carbonated, not too thick nor watery with plenty of character within especially compared to an average porter that may be on the thinner tinny side. Definitely a bit bitter, chocolate seems to be very mellow and hard to pick out, but I am getting some notes of milk between the peanut butter. It's ok. I'd like to try it again on draft.

Pours dark. Thick tan foam. Peanut butter aroma. Heavy smokey peanut butter body. Very bitter finish. Not overly sweet good flavor. An odd combination but pretty good.

12/29/2023 - Dark opaque, looks like a porter, head recedes rapidly to a thin layer of small bubbles; I can taste, sort of, the chocolate peanut butter the label says; Good mouthfeel, ample carbonation, especially for a porter

Two twelve ounce cans were emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The porter is black coffee brown in color and has about the same viscosity, only it's carbonated. A generous tan head was created by the pour. Oddly, there's not as much peanut in the aroma as some that offer the same thing. There's just as much chocolate, coffee and roasted barley to smell. The taste follows, as the peanut character is there, but not the dominate flavor as in some. The balance between the additional flavors is very good, although the bitterness of the roasted barley and coffee does dominate the finish. Overall, the taste is rich enough and the body a notch above the average porter. Although it never approaches the too sweet level, the described bitterness at the finish is welcomed. There are some peanut butter infused brews that taste just like you're having a stout/porter with a spoonful of it in your mouth. This isn't one of those, but there's enough. Taste layers of peanut butter, dark chocolate, black coffee and roasted barley can't be all bad. The glass held almost no lacing as the vessel emptied, but some of the head sustained.

12 oz can acclimated to 50°F and poured into a nonic pint glass.
Pours a brown so dark it appears black, with gold highlights and fine tan sediment. Produces a 2.5 finger foamy khaki head, persiting long and a film of lacing that gives way to a ring and clumps.
Initial aroma is very strongly that of peanut butter, smelling strong but light somehow. Additionally very strong is milk chocolate, smelling like any number of peanut butter chocolate candies due to the strength of the peanut butter and chocolate smell melding with a thick sweetness emitted by this brew. A coffee note is present, as is milk. After agitating I notice the coffee amplifies, and the specific smell I get is Reese's puffs cereal. Initial taste before swallowing is again Reese's puffs, the specific peanut butter powdery flavor is just very similar. I get sweetness, and a bitterness like cocoa or coffee. Unfortunately, given that taste, I found it difficult to notice any other nuances. It did also occupy the majority of the aftertaste, sitting in the back of the mouth and tongue.
After swallowing I'm met with more of that cocoa or coffee bitterness, as well as the corresponding tastes. Unfortunately, afterwards there develops something of a poison like bitterness, some type of cyanide taste that says "you shouldn't have eaten that." The kind of dry and astringent bitterness that is just unpleasant to the western palate, although tasting more it seems it's perhaps an intense coffee bitterness?
Mouthfeel is smooth but seems a little lacking in body? Not at all bad but I found myself slightly surprised. I can say with certainty that it glides down the gullet with ease, feeling slightly heavier than it should.
Overall I found it great to look at, and I was really wowed by the smell. There are some really great tastes in there but I find that it's hard to notice them when I'm overwhelmed by that poison taste. I've tasted it and other similar tastes before and I'm not sure if it's my tastebuds or what, but it's disappointing. I obviously don't think it's an intended taste so I think it must be me, but that leaves me with the question, how do I factor it into my scoring? I only subtracted 0.25 because I figure if it doesn't work with me then that's legitimate, but I don't want at all to take out my frustration on the score that reflects something that people worked hard on.
Won't likely buy again, but it's absolutely possible I'll buy again to see if it's an off batch, or my tastes change. I will definitely buy even more Jesus, however.

This was a very impressive experience. The taste was smooth and sweet but not overly sweet. The bubbles were smooth and velvety compared to other beers similar to this one.
