Notes/Commercial Description:
Pre-Prohibition style salutes a time when lagers had greater character and more distinct flavor, when beer wasn't full of the additives found in many of today's mainstream lagers. Lucky Bucket's version has a light, malty flavor that's easy on the palate. Filtered twice, the subtle maltiness nicely balances a floral hop. Dry-hopped with a fresh blend of aromatic West Coast hops, Lucky Bucket Lager is a great session beer with an ABV of 4.5% and 20 IBU's.

bottle into a pint glass. honey colored, kind of thin looking with lots of bubbles. not much white head and almost no lace

smells like honey and hops and a little bready

taste is hops, sweet, malt, hops and sweet again.

a bit thin in the mouth, feels more like a soda than a beer.

overall, pretty average, but not bad

On the tour at Lucky Bucket Brewing, a free pint came along with the tour. I'd had a bottle of the lager before with positive results, so tried a draft for comparison.

Tightly bubbled, thick, creamy head that lingers nicely as the effervescence builds the head from the bottom of the orange-amber lager. Bit dark for the stereotype of a lager, but, if I remember correctly, this is a pre-prohibition lager and fits a different style than the typical American macro-lager.

Clean malty nose with light spice, and, with a deep breathe, a hint of apple underneath. Smooth and full bodied, the spice, caramel and sweetness jump out on the tongue and linger--not typical lager characteristics, but a reason why I like this one. Refreshing on a hot day--a perfect reason to drink a lager.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours an orange/ amber color with a one finger off white head. The head faded over a moderate amount of time to give a light amount of lacing.

Smell – The aroma was heavy of grain and bread. It has a big biscuit and dark wheat bread smell. Mixed with these aromas are notes of light caramel and some floral and earthy hop.

Taste – The taste begins big of a biscuit and caramel sweet flavor. As it advances some flavors of wheat and earthy hop meet the tongue. These flavors overall create a smooth taste and take the flavor to the end where they are met with a very light floral and pine hop which when combine with the caramel and biscuit take the taste to the end where they leave a nice slightly bitter flavor to linger on the tongue..

Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the lighter side with a slightly higher then average carbonation level. The higher carbonation makes for a good refreshing beer.

Overall – A easy drinking fairly nice flavor profile makes for a decent session beer. Not bad, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Pre-Prohibition Style Lager
Lucky Bucket Brewing Co.
Style: American Pale Lager
ABV: 4.50 %

LOOK: Deep golden straw color with a fine clarity and carbonation rising briskly to the surface. A bit dark to be considered pale, this lager sits beneath a white head leaving wisps of lace.

SMELL: Bread, caramel, grains and floral hops are all there up front. Typical lager aromas suggesting hops and some sweetness.

TASTE: A well balanced beer, with sweet caramelized grains upfront and a sturdy leafy bitterness as well. Faint citrus, brown sugar and herbal elements. Finishes clean and bready with an even finish.

FEEL: Medium bodied, yet crisp, clean and refreshing. Well carbonated brew.

OVERALL: A solid, serviceable lager from Lucky Bucket. Drinks easily with mellow and agreeable flavor. A perfect companion for a hearty meal, this would go great with a loaded burger and fries.

Really pretty beer, clear amber-orange in color with a slight chill haze and a decent amount of bubbles steaming from the bottom to feed the thin white cap of a head. Nice malt base to the nose, toasty caramel and biscuit tones with a sweeter floral hop aroma mingling in. Touch of citrus for a nice balanced nose that is surprisingly aromatic.

The taste is very much like the nose with a toasty biscuit and caramel malt base that goes well with the smooth lager mouthfeel. Light to medium body that makes this very easy to drink. Lightly fruity, not citrusy so much as apricotesque I suppose. There is a slight touch of bitterness in the back that balances out the fruitiness, the hops being floral with just the slightest touch of pine.

Overall, just an easy drinking lager that tastes pretty good and smells even better. For what it is, this beer does just fine as an easy to drink refresher.

This beer is a medium amber with excellent clarity and an off-white head that settles to a quarter inch of foam on the top after a couple of minutes.
A very appealing grain, slightly sweet malt aroma is prominent with a moderately high citrus hop aroma that seems a bit spicy in the background. There was just a slight green apples aroma from the yeast for a couple of minutes.

The first sip has a big grainy, malty flavor balanced with a medium-high hop bitterness and medium-high citrus and pine hops flavors. The balance of malt sweetness and hops bitterness is tilted towards the bitter end with the bitterness lingering briefly into a dry finish.

This has a medium body and a medium-high level of carbonation with a pleasant creamy quality.

I really liked this beer it's like the lager equivalent to an American Pale Ale as far as hops flavor and bitterness just that it has a malty backbone and that clean lager yeast character to it. Beers like remind me that there is more to beer than ales and it's about time I tried my hand at brewing a lager.

A - A finger's worth of perfectly level crisp off-white colored head... Minimal retention gies way to an enticing veil of lace ind slight collar... Lots of medium sized carbonation bubbles, half of which cling to the sides of the glass and the other half of which rise at a very rapid pace... The color is a darker than expected mix of bronze and copper...

S - Bread crust... Cereal grains... Fresh biscuits... Perhaps some corn notes... Some slightly sweet fruit notes... Very little if any hop presence...

T - Starts as expected with lots of bready malts... Biscuit... Grain... Bread crust... The finish is unexpectedly sweet and even a bit tart... In an American Pale Lager, those are desired flavors...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... Briskly carbonated... A bit sleek... Rather one dimensional...

D - An honest, but uninspired attempt... Not something I would drink again nor recommend... Even at the highly accessible 4.5% ABV, I'm not sure this one is worth seeking out... The slightly odd flavor is a killer for me...
