Notes/Commercial Description:
India Pale Ale is about balance. The right balance of malt, hop flavor, bitterness, and aroma to create an unforgettable ale. Lucky Bucket's Original American IPA begins with a nice malt bill that lets the brew stand up to the mountain of hops added later. After the boil, the hot wort (the beer before it's really beer) is fired through a hop back, a unique four-barrel stainless steel tank filled with a gratuitous amount of raw flower Amarillo, Centennial, and Cascade hops, extracting the aromatic oils and flavor of the hops. Followed with additional dry hopping in the fermenter, the end result is a big, well-balanced West Coast-style IPA with terrific hop flavor and aroma. Lucky Bucket IPA weighs in at 65 IBUs and 6.3% ABV.

12oz bottle in a tall pint glass.

A- Pours a copper-orange color with a 1-finger white head. The head's quick fade leaves decent lacing. It's hazy with visible carb bubbles and some other floaters.

S- Malty pale ale-like aroma with some pine. The hops make their way. Pretty crisp and fresh.

T- Malt and citrus hops. Some earthy pine.

M- Fresh and smooth. Good malt body, not too sweet . Lasting hop finish.

O- Pretty good drinking IPA that shows it's malts.

My first Lucky bucket beer.Pours into a standard pint glass a clear copper color with a thin white head atop, aromas have a nice resiny sharp hop kick with a big biscuit malt base to hold up to the hops.A pretty big complex hop profile with resiny/piney hops really standing out and a somwhat balancing lightly sweet biscuit base. This is a pretty good American style IPA,the hops are resiny and lightly bitter but are restrained a little with such a big malt base.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into glass.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy amber with good sized head.

Smell: Nice citrus notes of orange and grapefruit initially. After a few minutes I can mainly just smell alcohol - odd as this is not close to being a DIPA.

Taste: Strong hop flavor of grapefruit and orange over a bed of toasted and caramel malts. Finish is not particularly bitter, but it certainly is hoppy.

Feel: Smooth and creamy body that almost seems more DIPA than IPA. That mostly works for me, but the finish is not quite dry enough and slightly boozy. Once again, a little odd.

Overall: Nice hop flavor on this one, but the surprising booziness is a slight detriment.

I like the Lucky Bucket IPA....kuddos to the Nebraskan brewer. The beer poured a copper color with thin white head that is leaving a lace. The scent is mostly fresh pine that has a tinge of cirtus that almost makes a gumball type flare. The taste is a hop burst with sweet malt balance that finishes bitter. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a good beer and should definitely be tried for those that like IPAs.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance-Reddish-copper color with brilliant clarity and a sticky, yellowish head of cream which sticks around and laces nicely as it goes.

Aroma-Pungent, grapefruity hops, with orange zest and light pine. Some tropical flavors-pineapple. Bready malt is spiked with a dab of caramel, and light fruity esters round out the aroma.

Flavor-Sweet tropical fruit and a touch of bready malt open give way quickly to moderately strong hop bitterness. The hop flavor profile is not nearly as robust as the aroma, with pungent orange rind showing through in the mid-palate. The finish is dominated by hop bitterness, and shows an unpleasant, papery, oxidation character with slight vegetal notes.

Mouthfeel-Medium body with moderate carbonation. Hop bitterness lingers on the palate, but not unpleasantly so.

Aside from slight flaws in the flavor, this is a decent American IPA. Good hop character in the aroma with nice supporting malt and alcohol notes. Unfortunately, the papery/vegetal finish is a deterrent for me, but I'm willing to give it another shot, and hope that this bottle just wasn't in top condition.

A: Hazy light brown to fading golden hue with good head that holds out for quite a while until finally dissipating to a thin film; great lacing

S: Unfortunately the aroma is a bit muted but the grapefruit and pine quality does persist a bit; pleasant but subtle

T: A good balance of grapefruit and pine with a sweet caramel malt finish--a bit of a lemon tartness at the end that detracts from the otherwise balanced finish

F: Very balanced mouth coat and feel

D: A very good IPA from the folks at Lucky Bucket--I'm glad they finally started bottling this great hoppy, session beer

A - poured on tap at Lucky Bucket Brewery tour. Dark amber/coppery color. Leaves a solid head.

S - very hoppy w/ some citrus notes. Not a huge IPA fan, but the aroma wasn't too overwhelming for me.

T - again, solid hops. Not nearly as hoppy as some other IPA's I've tried, which I actually liked. Citrus undertones.

M - nice and smooth, good carbonation. Easy drinking.

D - As I said, I'm not a huge IPA fan, but I could definitely drink a few of these brews. Overall, a solid beer.
