Appearance: Pours a nice dark amber with a good one finger head that holds on for the longest time. Nice lacing throughout the drink.

Smell: Heavy caramel notes in the front of the nose with hints of bread/malt in the nose. Slight hop spice mixed in.

Taste: Sweet caramel mixed with bread like malt sweetness in the front of the mouth, followed by a quick kick of hop spice. The hops add a nice balance and linger just long enough followed by a clean watery finish.

Mouthfeel: Very light carbonation and smooth from start to finish.

Overall: A great cousin to the OMB Copper. Quite the good drink and very true to the style. Will have this one again when available.

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's Anniversary Alt is in the style of the Sticke Alt of the Uerige Brewery in Dusseldorf. (At OMB, also referred to as 'Imperial Copper', or 'Anni Alt'.)

Served on tap at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Tap Room in a cylinder shaped (stange) pint glass.

The beer is similar to Olde Meck's flagship Copper. Compared to Copper it is darker in color, yet still copper colored; richer flavor; sweeter; and higher ABV at 6%. It has firm head; bready aroma; and very smooth. (Aroma, head, and smoothness are about the same as Copper.)

Excellent way to celebrate the brewery's anniversary.

Tap at the brewery.

Pours a clear brown with thin white head.

Bready caramel malt aroma.

Flavor of caramel, buttered bread and notable hop bitterness.

Full body with tingles of carbonation.

Very good, a natural progression from the Copper. Would have this again for sure.

Draft at the rap room. Just had the half pint. Looks pretty much like the picture. A deep copper/amber pour, 2 fingers of cream head. Retained very well.

Aroma, some carmelly malt, but more earthy. Peaty and very leafy. Some toast.

Taste, toasted malt and toffee. Very bready, light pumpernickel. A nice herbal bitterness. Not super complex but very well done.

Mouthfeel, crisp yet coating. Carbonation is a little higher than creamy feeling. Drinks as well as expected from Old Mecklenburg.

Only bested by the little swing top bottle Uerige Sticke for alts I've had.
If the standard copper was like this I'd get it often. Recommended and recommend Old Meck produce this regularly.

This is a special release, at the brewery tap-room only beer, I suppose part of their "Brauhaus" monthly series.

WHAT an OUTSTANDING beer!!!

The best Alt, by far, that I've had, just a super delicious beer. Very smooth, well rounded, balanced Altbier, with a subtle classically German bread aftertaste.

Aroma: Clean yet robust and complex aroma of rich malt, noble hops and restrained fruity esters. The malt character reflects German base malt varieties. The hop aroma may vary from moderate to very low, and can have a peppery, floral or perfumy character associated with noble hops. No diacetyl.

Appearance: Light amber to orange-bronze to deep copper color, yet stopping short of brown. Brilliant clarity (may be filtered). Thick, creamy, long-lasting off-white head.

Flavor: Assertive hop bitterness well balanced by a sturdy yet clean and crisp malt character. The malt presence is moderated by moderately-high to high attenuation, but considerable rich and complex malt flavors remain. Some fruity esters may survive the lagering period. A long-lasting, medium-dry to dry, bittersweet or nutty finish reflects both the hop bitterness and malt complexity. Noble hop flavor can be moderate to low. No roasted malt flavors or harshness. No diacetyl. Some yeast strains may impart a slight sulfury character. A light minerally character is also sometimes present in the finish, but is not required. The apparent bitterness level is sometimes masked by the high malt character; the bitterness can seem as low as moderate if the finish is not very dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Smooth. Medium to medium-high carbonation. Astringency low to none. Despite being very full of flavor, is light bodied enough to be consumed as a session beer in its home brewpubs in Düsseldorf.

Overall Impression: A well balanced, bitter yet malty, clean, smooth, well-attenuated amber-colored German ale.

~~~
Above find the official BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) guidelines for Düsseldorf Altbier. OMB's regular copper fits them well, but their "Sticke" Altbier even better. A REALLY OUSTANDING BEER!!!
