Review dated 4/19/2010. Bomber from Anderson Valley Brewing itself. Cellared this for about a year before drinking it. Used part of the bottle too cook mussels in since I figured this is a pretty cheap and easy one to come by. Nothing beats drinking a beer paired with mussels cooked in the same beer.

Pours mostly clear golden with a small white head that lasts.

Aroma is nice and typical for the style more or less. Pale malt and Belgian yeast along with some fruity esters and spice.

Flavor is also fairly typical, not too sweet and Americanized. You can usually count on Anderson Valley to hit a style fairly well. Pale malt and Belgian yeast, some light fruits (banana and peach), spice, and earth.

Somewhat smooth on the palate with medium-full body and an appropriate carbonation level. A little alcohol warming.

Overall a solid tripel. By no means a standout, but drinkable and enjoyable.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on April 20, 2014.

It is a decent looking pour with its orange-amber-copper color, good clarity, and modest off-white head.

The aroma had many of the Belgian Triple sensations one would expect such as biscuit malts, sweetness, and effervescent cleanliness.

The medium body is a bit heavier than most Tripels and I like that.

The taste tends to make one forget the aroma. yeah, there are biscuit malts, sugar sweetness, and clean crisp hops but there is this odd aftertaste that I would only best describe as medicinal. I have to say that it really throws the positives out the door because the taste is what lingers. It really throws all the good character stuff I have to say.

Before I review this beer I need to confess. I don't like Belgiums, or anything that remotley resemebles the style, too sweet for me personally. HOWEVER, my girlfriend bought this for me and its been sitting in the fridge for a couple days so here it goes.
The color on this brew is hay color, lightly yellowish with a big fluffy head. A very nice looking beer. Smells of fruit, subdued hops come through faintly on the nose. Taste is sweet, estery, with a chewy medium thickness in the mouthfeel. Sugars come through very prevalently and hide the high ABV...so tread caustiously on this one! I thought this beer was well crafted, thought I'm not a huge fan on the style, the look, nose and mouthfeel alone on this made it OK to drink.

12oz : chalice

Hazy, brassy, dark golden with a foamy, off white head, that is unfortunately fairly short lived.

Nothing particularly exciting. A subtle blend of clove phenols, lightly bready, sweet notes, faint fruity, apple/pear esters in the finish.

Medium body, foamy carbonation.

A tasty, well done Triple. On the palate nothing about it really stood out for me, but it wasn't lacking either. I would have enjoyed a more prominent, long lasting foamy head.
