Hop Ottin' IPA – IPA (7.0%) - Anderson Valley Brewing Co. (California)
App: Rich brown orange color with a massive off white head that literally takes up half the glass. Can erupted everywhere when I opened it, even though it was cold and had been sitting for at least 3 minutes. Could be my fault, but it makes me a little reticent. Pretty good lacing.
Smell: Some bitter earthiness in the nose. Fleeting piney notes, with a heavy alcohol smell. Not a lot going on. Could be a result of the pour?
Taste: Metallic and slightly bitter. Some nice floral like hops in the true taste. No malt balance to recommend with only the slightest toasted malts hiding in the background. Lackluster and with a lingering bitterness that is not pleasant.
Mouth: A little thin bodied but still well carbonated despite the disastrous can situation.
Home tasting, 12oz can into Tulip Glass. 12/18/13

Pours a clear copper with a big and very persistent head. Lots of lacing on the side of the glass. Smell is big citrusy grapefruit hops. Taste is mellow toasty carmel malt upfront. A little underlying malt sweetness throughout. Finishes with an herbal hop bitterness. Heavy creamy mouthfeel. This is a very rich tasting IPA. And by that I mean it has a fantastic maltiness behind the hops and even challenging the hops for center stage here. Also the heavy mouthfeel. Maybe the drinkability suffers a bit, but this is a great, and unique, IPA.

overall a good beer. This IPA seemed to have a little more sweetness than most but overall it seemed to balance out quite well. I like the way high IBUS but was pleased with this one also. Just a touch of creaminess added to the balance. Overall happy with this one. After reading other reviews, I was kind of mixed about trying, but once I did, I was glad I did...
