I had an IPA at the Anderson Valley brewery (maybe it the Buckhorn Saloon back then) maybe 10 years ago? It could have been this beer, but honestly I can't remember. Still I recall a great afternoon sitting outside downing a pitcher of their malty brew, so I'll just pretend it was this one, since I recently discovered it here on the east coast.
Pours a deep amber with excellent head and long-lasting carbonation. Sticky lacing coats the side of the glass.
Pine and citrus hops galore mix with caramel malty sweetness and raisins for a delightful aromatic contrast typical of great American IPA's.
Very well balanced maltiness with loads of hops. It's not an especially complex beer, but it's so well balanced I have a hard time knocking it. While some IPA's can be a little sticky sweet or overhopped to compensate, this production leaves little to criticize. Very clean finish.
This IPA easily holds its own with any of the great and more well known American IPAs with less fanfare. During one tasting, it provided a great palate scrubbing complement to super spicy sausages. My taste buds are alive!! Once again I owe Garrett Oliver thanks for the advice. Fortunately I have the better part of a case left to enjoy.
