Anderson Valley IPA pours a very attractive orange amber color with an ample head of foam. The head is beige in color and posses both excellent retention and lacing.
The aroma is a bit off of the classic American IPA with some fragrant grapefruity hops, plenty of earthy notes, a touch of pine and a nice doughy and caramely malt backbone. It is a well balanced aroma as opposed to a really hop laden one.
The flavor is also quit balanced with the hops being well tempered by that bready, doughy and caramel tinged malt. The flavor remains citrusy and earthy with a bit of floral spice, but it could have used perhaps a couple more helpings of hop flavor to go along with a bitterness that is well balanced by the malt.
The mouthfeel is quite nice with a medium body and lively carbonation. It is just carbonated enough to be able to retain a bit of smoothness that helps give the beer a fairly unoffending finish.
Overall this is yet another excellent American IPA. While this is not a standout in a crowded category, it is a very tasty beer that I would have no problem drinking a few of. It really is impressive how many great examples of this style are brewed. Then again, it is also pretty sad that a lot of breweries can’t make a decent one.

Pours a clear copper with a big and very persistent head. Lots of lacing on the side of the glass. Smell is big citrusy grapefruit hops. Taste is mellow toasty carmel malt upfront. A little underlying malt sweetness throughout. Finishes with an herbal hop bitterness. Heavy creamy mouthfeel. This is a very rich tasting IPA. And by that I mean it has a fantastic maltiness behind the hops and even challenging the hops for center stage here. Also the heavy mouthfeel. Maybe the drinkability suffers a bit, but this is a great, and unique, IPA.

overall a good beer. This IPA seemed to have a little more sweetness than most but overall it seemed to balance out quite well. I like the way high IBUS but was pleased with this one also. Just a touch of creaminess added to the balance. Overall happy with this one. After reading other reviews, I was kind of mixed about trying, but once I did, I was glad I did...
