Our Hop Ottin’ IPA is brewed and dry-hopped with copious amounts of Columbus and Cascade. This beer is a showcase of the bright citrusy aromas, bold grapefruit and pine-like flavors, and resiny bitterness that hop heads crave. With a brilliant, deep amber color and solid malt backbone, hints of citron, roses, and bergamot climax with a dry, herbal finish in this well-balanced interpretation of a West Coast IPA.

This one was just ok to me. It had a nice nose, but the flavor seemed a little off to me. It was bitter, but malty at the same time. I didn't really get the hoppy flavor I wanted, but still liked it ok.

Appearance: pours a hazy orange color with a 1/2" head that slowly falls. Nice lace develops during the session.

Smell: mild citrus and pine aroma.

Taste: caramel, big grapefruit flavors, some pine, oranges, and some pear. Some grassy tones arrive late. Nice bitterness levels.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp from start to finish and a slight dryness arrives late.

Overall: a decent IPA with loads of citrus and pine.

Pours a slightly hazy, amber orange with a big, off-white, foamy head that dissipates fairly quickly. Has a good amount of carbonation. Smells of wonderful citrus hop and nice malt. The taste is about balance. A wonderful balance of citrus and pine hop in which the pine sticks around. The malt transition is probably the smoothest I gave had.

12oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer is medium pale orange in color and forms a healthy white head. Moderate pine hop aroma. Flavor is BIG West coast IPA, bordering on double IPA territory. Mostly pine, with some resinous and citrus peel thrown in. A real classic West coast IPA that old school IPA drinkers are sure to enjoy. That said, by modern standards, the hops are a little long in the boil, and the complexity just isn't there (as other reviewers have observed).

Picked up a 12oz bottle at the shop. Poured a dark copper and amber. Almost a reddish hue to it. Smells of citrus pith and resinous pine. So drinking this I personally feel like it is very malt forward almost like a APA. If I taste tested this blind I would think it was a APA. I gave it a 4 tho for taste because I like the taste very much. It's a good beer. A malt forward IPA if there is such a thing.

Not sure where I picked this bottle up, but it was sitting in the back of my very small pantry (smaller than a breadbox) and the weekend called for a tall brew to work off the stresses of being a graduate student. It pours a nice, deep orange-brown color, but it takes a few moments if investigation to pick up the scent. Once found, it exhibits a faint dry floral quality with some pine needles, though it gets airier and sweeter with every whiff. The flavor starts dry and crisp with a noble hops quality, and an added touch of toffee sweetness, but gets more and more dry near the end and the aftertaste. It has that continental quality of a pale ale, with balance, equanimity and a grain flavor over bitterness - exactly what I like.

Poured into a tall pint glass: color is a little dense copper, translucent; head is light tan with mixture of bubble sizes, presents about 1 inch thick and then lingers nicely.

Smell is somewhat average for an ipa, malt is toasty with light caramel, hops are a nice blend of earthy spice/pine/lemon/citrus rind.

Taste is a bit more hop forward with the bitterness hitting first then subdued my the maltier flavor of this ale; malt is toast and caramel (a bit more than i like) and then hops are earthy/piney with less citrusy notes.

Mouthfeel is very pleasant with an ideal carbonation level and no lingering flavors from the maltier profile.

Overall a solid IPA, a bit too malty for my preference with this hop blend but still nice tasting.

Poured into a pint glass, and it's a rich copper, burnt orange color with a yellow off white head. Aroma was good did get some citrus grapefruit, then pines & resin & grass smells. Taste was much more subdued than I thought to the point is was a but disappointing. Mouth feel was crisp bitter and went down easy. Overall I can't always expect fruity flowery hop bombs. Still just something missing from this but still good.

Wow, what a find! Hop Ottin' offers the palate a wonderful medley of flavors, with a citrusy bouquet overlaying notes of pine and malt. A very rewarding drinking experience - it will be one of my standby IPAs from now on.

A great beer. The beer had a great aroma and a very consistent complex and desirable hoppy taste. It is very smooth and drinkable. I would highly recommend it!

L -- Dark amber color with a frothy white head, 2 fingers tall that dissipates quickly. Slight lacing.

S -- Grapefruit jumps out, slight pine scent, herbal as well.

T -- Nice strong hoppiness, but not overpowering like a hop bomb. Same grapefruit, pine, and herbal flavors as the head gives off. The pine flavor dominates more as I go along, but the herbal flavors subsist throughout. Taste the malt more as it warms.

F -- Resiney residue, but with the persistent carbonation it makes for a pleasant feel. The malts give it a more medium thickness, which I enjoy.

O -- Very solid IPA. Didn't blow my mind, but still very good and better than your average IPA.

An average pour and aroma mask a refreshing, crisp IPA. If you're looking for the bitterest beer around look elsewhere. If you're looking for an incredibly drinkable beer this isn't a bad choice.

Pours amber with a dirty white head. Aroma of herbal tea with some lemon and pine. A little toastiness underneath from the malt. Flavor follows suit. Medium bodied with some activity. Overall, boring IPA though well crafted. Wouldn't refuse a bottle, but will not seek it out again. Pass.

Aroma - low intensity for the style. Floral and malty.

Taste - semi sweet grapefruit with medium bitterness and generic maltyness. Pleasant, but not impressive.

Overall - middle of the road, conservative IPA.

pours amber, nice combo of orange/brown. thick white head as well.

smells like caramel malt and slight grapefruit.

tastes like caramel malt and grapefruit. it's a really nice combination, great balance. goes down smooth, easy drinker. a filling beer though, i don't find many beers to be physically filling but this one is.

overall a good beer, malt forward and malt heavy but good use of sweet hops. finishes dry and bitter. overall a good IPA but nothing mindblowing

Redish Amber color. Citrus and hops are very distinct with a little floral aroma. Orange peel is very distinct slightly piney with a slight grapefruit aroma and bitterness. Strong hops but not too overwhelming and perfectly balanced with malts. Leaves a slight lacing on the glass.

I don't know. Appearance is cloudy amber with a full, soft head;, smell is a little soapy; taste is a little soapy, too. What else? I like the full-bodied malt, though it's a bit too caramelly for my taste. Hops are indistinct--a little pine, a bit of floral character, not much citrus or spiciness. All in all, kind of a mish mash. The soapiness probably derives from the floral hops. Mouthfeel benefits from the oats, but I think that contributes to the soapiness too. I imagine my impression is in the minority, and maybe influenced by the fact that I just finished a Dogfish Head 60 Minute before pouring this Hop Ottin' IPA, but I don't think it's all that great overall. Not too bad, but ...

I don't understand the glowing praise this beer gets here. I had this on draft and it was a total malt bomb with some hints of pine but mostly just bitter hops over bready malts. Maybe this keg got left out in the sun for a week?
