Our Hop Ottin’ IPA is brewed and dry-hopped with copious amounts of Columbus and Cascade. This beer is a showcase of the bright citrusy aromas, bold grapefruit and pine-like flavors, and resiny bitterness that hop heads crave. With a brilliant, deep amber color and solid malt backbone, hints of citron, roses, and bergamot climax with a dry, herbal finish in this well-balanced interpretation of a West Coast IPA.

I first smelled this beer when I was 6 months sober at a campout and I wasn't drinking. One of my buddies had this. If yall know how much your sense of smell kicks in when you get sober you'll know what I'm talking about. This beer is FLORAL. I smelled this and though I was hittin a bouquet of fruit and flowers. About 3 months later I started drinking again and picked some up at the grocery. D@MN YO!!! This has like wine conocisour aftertastes and hints of this and dat. This wouldn't be a go-to drink at all for me cuz its too funky. This is by all means an "A" beer though and is something everyone should experience.

Excellent beer, as are many of the Anderson Valley beers. Nice, hoppy flavor that not just bitter, but floral and balanced. Very accessible IPA for those who are looking for a balance of bitterness and other flavors in an IPA. Also recommend the AV Oatmeal Stout.

clear, dark amber color, with a slightly off white head. settles down to a thin lace, leaving good lacing on the glass.

now if you put "hop" in the name of your beer, you better be serious .
these guys are serious. strong floral and grapefruit aroma. wow. "new car smell" should be this good. maybe some pine in there too, and we both know how much i like pine right?

hops again on show in the taste. very balanced with hop bitterness, flavor, and malts. the aftertaste though, is made mostly of hops, making sure you dont forget the name of your beer. kind of like each sip screams out "SAY MY NAME!!" finishes very smooth.

creamy mouthfeel makes this go down very easily. glad i got six as this has quickly become one of my favorite ipa's.

IPAs are my beer of choice and here in Colorado, we have plenty of good ones. But, this is really one of the best IPAs I have ever had. I've had one per night for the last five nights and I'm always looking forward to the next one.

The head is fluffy and large but the lacing is phenomenal! Depending on your level of hallucination, you could look at the lacing for hours.

The smell has a nice low level of maltiness, maybe a little citrus.

The taste is wonderful, that maltiness combined with a nice bitterness from the fresh hop flavor.

With that excellent head, there is also a creamy mouth to this that makes every mouthful something to look forward to.

I can see having one of these every day and then another one would be ok too. And maybe another after that. And so on....

One the top American IPAs. Highly recommended. Just wish it wasn't so damned expensive here in NY. $10.99 a six!

This stuff is legend in Northern CA, so I picked some up for old times sake. Pours a rusty pumpkin color with a mysterious yeasty haze that suggests a formidable brew. The head is thick and resembles freshly whipped cream.

Hops dominates the nose up front, and there is some creamy honey-sweet maltiness lurking in the background. Complex smell for an IPA.

The taste is heavenly and as expected quite hoppy. Rindy hops dominate up front, with notes of pine, live hops, and bready yeast synchretising in the middle before a finish that combines citrusy sourness with fresh honey. A peristent bitterness clings to the roof of the mouth. A fine, fine IPA.

Mouthfeel is a little thin on this one, perhaps because of the lack of hops/malt balance. Could use more carbonation in my estimation, but refreshing still.

Drinkability here is lower than that for most IPAs because of the imposing ABV. However, it is worth drinking two for the taste alone. More of a sipping ale for a drinker of my ilk.

this is one great IPA. It pours a nice orange amber color with a small head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lacing.

The smell is fantastic, with strong notes of orange, grapefruit, pine, pineapple, lemon and a bit of malt. very nice, clean, delicious.

The taste is a great elaboration of the smell, with lime, pine, grapefruit, orange rind, pineapple and a bit of malt and a ton of bitterness. Intense but fantastic. Not for the non hophead. Some spicy heat that I can only guess is from the alcohol and maybe the hops.

The mouthfeel is creamy and rich with lively carbonation. Medium but full body.

Drinkability is good, but the intensity of the flavors and the high ABV makes this a bit tough to drink a lot of.

Overall: Benchmark California IPA. Fruity, piney, bitter and creamy. Absolutely a knock out. It competes with my hometown Masala Mama.

Unbelievable! If you like hoppy beers, you have to try this.

Appearance: Nice. Quite attractive and sticks to the mug. Consistent almost amber hue.

Smell: Hmmm... can I drink it now. Sweet, hoppy aroma.

Taste: As the name implies, this is all hops. Yet it is not so overwhelming that it affects the complexity. Malt flavor is still distinguishable and pleasing.

Mouthfeel: Good body, good carbonation, good everything.

Drinkability: Addictive. Better with each drink.

Personally I prefer this over Stone, but this one and Stone are top two IPA's in my book. A must try.

Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA

On tap at Isaac Newton's, Newtown PA.

Appearance- orange/ honey brown with a decent fluffy white head.
Smell- Huge on the Citrus!
Taste- Grapefruit, Orange, and Lemon rind with a slight touch of malt.
Mouthfeel- so bitter so dry yet so smooth!

Overall- Probably the best IPA out there! Can't get enough of this. Downside is the price. $12.00 a sixer is pricey, so is $5 for a pint!

It has been said about this beer more than once, but balance is it's greatest strength. I think this is the best balanced IPA I have ever had with much more malt flavor than most to balance out the hoppiness.

The smell and appearance or good for an IPA. But the taste and drinkability are exceptional!

A: pours a hazy dark amber color with a thin white head but leaves an incredible sticky lace down the glass

S: smells sweet, then citrusy and piney hops

T: outstanding, not as sweet as expecting, first the hops hit hard with a very piney resinous followed by some citrus, the lingering bitterness is strong and great. One of the best tasting IPAs I have had.

M: good carbonation, average to medium feel

O: a great IPA, certainly one of the better brews. Very strong hops with less malty sweetness, a combination I personally love.

Poured quite a dark brownish copper with a thick head that stuck around awhile. The smell is a solid mix between floral hops and caramel malts. Oh wow the taste is great--very smooth with the slight bitterness not being too apparent until the end, where there is a sweet but dry hop taste that remains--quite yummy. Very drinkable and perhaps one of the best IPAs I've had.

Great brew. The 7-11 don't the street from my house carrys this stuff. (They also have one of their five isles dedicated completely to wine, I guess I'm moving up in the world)

Anywhoo, this stuff is great!

It pours a nice rich dark amber with a nice off white/tan head which is kind enough to stick around for a while.

There is a very nice hoppy aroma. The beer is nice and thick with lots of body to back up the the strong hop.

It is certainly nice that this stuff is 7%. You can grab a six pack and make quite an evening out of it.

Poured a very cloudy orangish bronze color with a nice fluffy beige head on it. Decent lacing.

Smell was very nice and hoppy. Some citrus and pine as well.

Taste was extremely hoppy throughout. Great flavor.

Mouthfeel is smooth and easy drinking.

Overall a really really good IPA. I enjoyed this one a lot. I'll definitely look for this again.

The discovery of Boonville, California as a quaintly vacant town was no disappointment. The realization that the visitor center for the brewery was closed and tours weren't happening for 6 hours was.

The only thing proper was to consume as much Hop Ottin' directly off the tap as reasonably possible. We stumbled into the original brewhouse for a pitcher of the nectar, at a shockling low $7 for a 50-ounce(ish) pitcher.

The apperance is as from decanted from bottle; a deeply glowing purplish ruby. The head was frothing up like some whipped-cream daydream as I immediately enveloped my face with the liquid, sniffing like a bloodhound.

To my surprise I found that fresh Hop Ottin' is a remarkably consistent product. Sure, the luciously grapefruit hop profile abounds in all of its glory. The freshly-tapped version is no revelation if you've had a fresh bottle.

But the gummy sweetness of a stale bottle is kicked down like a convict in its sublime and aggresively fresh status. Seek it out and be converted.

Bottle pour into large, chilled mug.

A...pours a pretty clear

orange with a perfect, pillowy, off white, 2 finger head.

S...Pleasant aroma, not quite as strong a smell as I would expect. A bit more earthy or even mossy than the citrus or fruit I would expect.

T...Fantastic. from the first sip it is just right. A malty sweetness right up front. I'm getting some fruit elements, apricot and some background citrus. Then the hops kick in with a smack in the face bitterness that cuts everything else off. Clean finish.

M...Again, just right. The carbonation is just right when you can't explain it. Its not high carbonation or flat. Not sticky but just thick enough. Heavy but not too much.

O... This is a winner. Full bodied, packed with complex flavors. I am a huge IPA fan and this would be in my top 5. If you like IPA you could not be disappointed with this brew.

Appearance: Nice copper shade with a very good head and amazingly sticky lacing.

Smell: Orange peel, pine, and a touch of malt.

Taste: Bitter citrus hops and sweet hops, with some spice and herbal flavor thrown in. Very good balance.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and creamy, with a moderate bitter aftertaste.

The Verdict: Excellent. Good balance between sweet malts and bitter hops, this is everything an IPA should be.

I poured this bottle into a standard pint glass. The beer was a hazy amber color, very rich and pleasing with about an inch of head. The lacing on the side of the glass was thick and stuck around throughout the beer. The smell was strong hops, tough to pick out anything but those hops. The taste, as the smell predicted was pure hoppy goodness. There were some slight traces of malt, but the hops dominate this one. Mouthfeel was solid. The alcohol is well hidden, I had no idea it was 7% until I looked at the bottle a little more carefully. Not the easiest brew in the world to drink, I would say one or two of these is plenty. Excellent IPA, one of my favorites to date.

This beer really blew me away. I actually didn't expect much from this and I bought it mostly for the moose-bear on the bottle. Really quite exceptional and very near exactly how I want a IPA to taste.
Beautiful balance between a sweet mouthfeel and hoppy bitterness. Beer like this is really too good to analyze.

Had it with some blue cheese pasta which turned out to be a really good combination.

Beautiful copper colour with a long standing off white head.
Big hop nose which makes this one of my favorite IPAs. This is well balanced, malt is a constant throughout the glass. The hops a fully flavorful, but enough bitterness involved to let you know this is from the west coast.
Will be drinkin' this all night long!

Appearance- Slightly clouded orange tinted amber color, tall head that gradually settled to nil with thin lace clinging

Smell- Blast of aromatic brandied alcohol flled the air as I poured; this scent was present, but dimished once in the glass. Pleasant nose of oak wine barrel and a sour maltiness and more things I wish I could identify.

Taste- Dried fruit, perhaps prunes or dried cherry fruitiness against a backdrop of maltiness and a strong citrus hop which carries on and on changing as it goes. So complex, so balanced. Alcohol aroma does not translate to strong alcohol flavor, no doubt buried under so many wonderful layers of malt and hops.

Mouthfeel- Full mouthfeel. No space on the palate remains unoccupied.

Drinkability- So rich, one or two will be enough for any session. If you're having a few beers drink your lighter bodied beers before you pour this beauty. After this one, most beers will taste like water.

Pours bright orange amber with just a touch of haze. Delicate head with lots of sticky lace left behind. Big, citrusy hop nose with delicate malt sweetness underneath. Sweetness up front (strawberries?) that gets its ass immediately kicked by citric hop bitterness of the classic American style. Still, there's enough of a malt backing here to create balance. Very nice mouthfeel that has balance like the body does -- there's a nice interplay between the acidity of the hops and the slickness of the malts. Overall, a highly drinkable, very well executed IPA. If you're not looking for an extreme IPA, but rather an excellent drinkable IPA that still delivers a hop fix, this is a good choice.

Pours strong reddish orange hue. Minimal head. Not overpoweringly bitter but you know it's an IPA! Strong yet un-offensive malty aroma. Malt taste overpowers the taste of the hops
in this brew which makes it an exceptional ipa. Smooth and easy to drink with no bite which is rare in a big beer. Well worth the price of admission!!!
