A- This is such a dark brown color, it is almost black....almost, and is very thick in appearance, as I cannot see through it whatsoever. There is a half inch of tan colored head that dissipates rather quickly, leaving behind a thin, yet dense film over the brew. Lacing is alright, with impressive clumps of protein fueled foam clinging to the glass, but it slips back into the liquid rather quickly, only leaving behind a couple of small spheres.
S- There is a primary blend of dark chocolate/cocoa powder and coffee....mocha like! Also noted to a lesser degree are aromas of blackstrap molasses, dark fruit....perhaps prune, perhaps raisin....can't put my finger on it. There is a dry grain smell too....likely from the oatmeal, but it's a smell that I quite like! The finish smells dry and roasty....perfect for the style!
T- The flavors are very distinct and very much a pleasure to enjoy within this style of beer! Following closely to the aromas are flavors of bittersweet chocolate, coffee, molasses (in the context of sweetness), dry oat grains, and well roasted malt. I quite like the aftertaste on the palate...a mouth drying choco/coffee that makes me want more!
M- This is a rich and creamy beer that has a wonderfully creamy carbonation....velvety infact! This is full bodied, as this style should be, and fully reminds me of a dark chocolate bar or coffee cake even! Very nice!
O- I highly recommend this beer to anybody who appreciates a rich, full brew with lots of character and is made with the standard set very high! The alcohol is well hidden, and would make an excellent beverage to enjoy with dinner or on it's own! Well done!
