Presentation: 12oz. amber bottle. No freshness dating. I'm glad to know that according to the label, "[i]t's not just shy sluggin' gorms neemer!" (If you'd like to know what the hell that means, you'll just have to go buy some and find out!)
Appearance: Nearly opaque in color. Light can be seen around the edges, but just barely. Not as dark and sinister as other stouts I've sampled. A coffee-colored head greets me upon pouring and yields a very nice amount of thick, sticky lace on the sides of my glass.
Smell: Deep, dark chocolates. Coffee. Chocolate-chip & oatmeal cookies. Dessert in my glass!
Taste: Very good. A hefty chocolate-coffee burst, followed by soft toffee notes, with a mildly dry and bitter aftertaste. Right at the very end a slight smoky flavor skirts across the flavor profile. Nothing lingers on the palate for too long.
Mouthfeel: I think I may have expected a "thicker" mouthfeel. However, I really liked this one. Not as watery as other stouts I've had. A little more carbonation that I cared for, but still very nice. Good creamy coating of the lips and palate.
Drinkability: Excellent finish. Not a heavyweight in the alcohol department, so you can have more than one. As the bottle states, perfect for dessert (who says you can't drink dessert?) or a nightcap. Quite tasty.
Note: 3 cheers to fellow BA PhantomVoDoo (he know about the whole "VoDoo" thing already...) for this one.
