I score is high because it's very dark, not quite pitch black, but close. Some brown around the edges. However, the head never really forms and what little is there doesn't retain. The bubbles are a nice shade of brown, but they just don't stick around long. That said, each swirl is attractive and leaves a spotty lace.
The scent kills. Roasted notes of chocolate and expresso. A slight fruity nose for a stout is what really does it.
It tastes merely ok. You get the toasty flavor and some burnt coffee, but I couldn't pick up the other stuff from the nose.
A bit thin for the style. It is smooth, but lacks the creaminess I was looking for. Needs a bit more body. Despite the smoothness, there's enough graininess to provide a slight bit of complexity. From mid-sip on, it's fairly bitter and dry.
Good, but not as good as I was hoping. Easy to drink if you don't mind a bitter forward stout.
